How can I access 4chan from behind a VPN when I'm traveling? I know there are some that work, but I don't know which ones.

Unless your VPN client is connected to the 4channel internal network, then you aren't using a "VPN" to access 4chan, you are using a proxy

Create a VPN on your home network and use that.
4chan can only block IPs that it knows are proxies. Just use an IP that they don't know is used by a proxy.
