Is it a meme?
>>
yes
>>
>>107665725
anything outside of debian and arch is a meme. i'll give points to mint for being the best "general purpose OS for dummies leaving microsoftland" but ultimately it's derived from debian as well.
>>
>>107665725
Why would you use anything other than Arch?
>>
>>107665728
Cause I heard Arch just breaks on update sometimes and they say it's your fault
>>
>>107665728
I used Arch for 2 years then switched to Debian.
Basically comes down to being too lazy to updoot frequently and even though Arch breaking is a very over-exaggerated meme, I'd still get bugs introduced by updates every now and again so I'd rather just not deal with that.
I do respect Arch though. It's a great distro, but not the best for every use case.
>>
>>107665729
It does break sometimes but it's always very easy to fix if you know what you're doing. And you are supposed to know what you're doing; you can't use Linux like Windows where you expect things to just work without having to ever look under the hood.
>>
>>107665729
It is your fault. My Arch broke 3 times on update and 1 times out of 3 I know exactly what I did to make it break. In 1 case I have a good guess but I'm not 100% sure and in 1 case it was literally just Nvidia so it's still my fault because I bought their garbage product.
>>
>>107665727
>mint
cinnamon is only decent at being a windows clone, it's pretty shit in comparison with gnome and kde.
>>
>>107665729
Arch is unironically more stable than Windows
>>
I use pop os and play new vegas regularly
>>
>>107665729
It is your fault and it's not unique to Arch, you're supposed to look at the packages that have updates and decide for yourself whether to update them. Nothing just breaks on its own
>>
>>107665736
Anon... if you do weekly updates on Arch, that's hundreds of packages to check.

99% of linux distros are a meme.
Really, all distros are Debian, Arch, or Fedora with other stuff installed on top and a different name.
Don't start distro hopping, so here's a heads up; No distro is a 1:1 conversion to windows.
Avoid Mint, Ubuntu, Zorin, PopOS, and any other distro that tries to emulate Windows' desktop.
Mint is prone to breaking. Ubuntu sells user data. All the other "Beginner friendly" distros are bloated and turn into abandonware in few years time.
Also avoid Arch, because it's for advanced users only. It's hands down one of the best distros, but it requires a decent understanding of computers and linux just to get going. Plus, everything always breaks, and you have to RTFM to fix it.

If you need a reliable machine for gaming, then consider CachyOS.
Cachy is arch based, so you'll probably have to learn a thing or two, but in my experience, it's one of the smoothest Out-of-The-Box experiences you can get with Linux. Not that it's perfect, but it's the closest I've ever seen a distro get to "It just works."
Do keep in mind that Arch-based distros come and go, just like manjaro did, but as of now, cachy stands strong. Steam and Wine will do most of the heavy lifting for you.

After that, and if you really do want to stay on linux, take your pick Debian, Fedora or Arch, and tune your machine to your liking.
>>
>>107665728
>what fo you mean someone can just upload malware to arch repositories and no one will know for months? It works on my machine
The only reason to use arch is if you are one of those faggots that cares about bleeding edge technology. If you're a neet or Trans it's fine too. If you arent into any of those things debian is considerably more stable, more intuitive, & actually allows you to use your machine even if its not retard proofed like cachy, suse, steam os etc
>>
>>107665737
Most of them are irrelevant to breaking the system. Vivaldi, Steam, Discord, etc aren't ever gonna break your shit.
It's literally grub 99% of the time anyway.
>>
>>107665739
There is only one instance of malware in Arch repos and that was in the repos of many other distros too because it was a supply chain attack on xz utils.
>>
>>107665741
>conveniently leaves out all the other rats, ddos malware & scrapers that have been found in the AUR
Nice own
>>
>>107665742
AUR is not the Arch repos.
Here is how Arch describes the AUR:
>AUR packages are user-produced content. These PKGBUILDs are completely unofficial and have not been thoroughly vetted. Any use of the provided files is at your own risk.

Do you understand? You use AUR at your own risk and using it is not part of normal Arch Linux usage.
>>
>>107665742
Are you too stupid to check whether an AUR package is safe? Do you also run every .exe on Windows without any consideration that it might be malware?
>>
>>107665743
>nooooo you can only use what your corporate overlords have spoon fed to you!
>its not normal to ever use user generated content, fixes or programs!
Kek archfags
These are the free fags trying to convert you lmao
>>
>>107665725
Fedora KDE werks great on my machine. I don't need some dude's gaymen optimizations.
>>
>>107665745
Are you legitimately retarded? Do you uncritically run literally every single exe that you find or someone gives you on Windows? Also Arch isn't a corporate product, it's an user created project. Arch Linux repos are every bit as "user generated" as the AUR.
>>
>>107665725
It's not a meme, it's based on Fedora and just werks. All these dumb niggers spamming Arch will have you sorting out updooter-related bugs at some point in the future because Arch breaks. Nobara is a less locked down version of Bazzite basically.
>>
>>107665745
you are a dumb gorilla nigger with no brain
>>
Always say that gaming outside of windows is a meme, you'll always piss off linux users
I've been using Nobara daily for two years. Only other distros I've used are ubuntu which I had for a short while before getting windows when I built my PC but Nobara's been able to keep me away from using the terminal barring one fatal instance, which is nice.
It's a nifty OS because the main developer is also the dude working on Proton. It's just that the website itself is useless for documentation and they rely on people coming to the discord (which is where all news updates are) for tech-help, which is FAST I had people respond to me quick but like holy shit do I really need to be going to a place and getting help from a dude who's profile picture is himself with pink hair instead of just your fucking website
They also didn't merge the system updater with the package updater so the jump from nobara 39->40 was fucked up and a lot of people ended up having to reinstall (me as well) because of using the package manager for updates rather than the system updater (which still isn't merged but doesn't allow you to update or some shit without using it)
I used Corectrl (and still do) to set fan curves and I had GPUScreenRecorder for capture until Steam's recording stuff took off.
It all 'just works', but will require you to know how to troubleshoot to fix problems sometimes - usually initially.
But Nobara comes with shit like wine preconfigured and preinstalled and I have run a LOT of random eroge just by running the windows exe so god save nobara linux
>>
>>107665747
>Do you uncritically run literally every single exe that you find or someone gives you on Windows
This is cope
>>
desu that was probably the most reasonable mod thread move I've seen.
>>
>>107665738
>99% of distros are a meme
>shills a meme distro
shut the fuck up disgusting tranime faggot, off yourself
gaymer shit like cashit and nigbara will never be real linux
>>
>>107665738
>avoid arch
>recommends a distro based on arch
>recommended something that has other stuff installed on top and has a different name
and somehow you still did it, all at once
Gamers, this is your mindset.
>>
>>107665935
Yeah, because arch is not scrub friendly, but arch-for-retards is.
Cry about it, purist nigger. Arch is a good starter distro.
>>
>using a distro made by one man
>>
>>107665725
The only non meme distro is SteamOS
