>you can buy an ARM "computer" running Android that has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios built in for less than the cost of a mid-tier meal at a restaurant and it even comes with a remote
granted i know it's probably a laggy piece of shit filled with spyware and frankly i'll be sticking to my thinkcentre, but how have we gotten to this point? i'm sure it probably has SOME hardware specs, maybe four A53 cores/1GB of RAM/8GB of flash. it boggles my mind
>>
It's a subsidized loss leader product, it creates a new customer that will be subscribing to one or more of those 4 streaming services with dedicated keys on the remote, they don't really care if you sideload apps to play your gay ass emulators on this cheap ass shitty android device, it's meant to stream video.
>>
I don't like thinking about the vapes with screens on them that just go into the trash.
But at the same time these things being considered cheap and not precious is likely a sign of technological advancement raising the floor.
The super computer has been rendered into a cheap mass produced 15 dollar stick.

You can run desktop linux on these. How performant will it be? Not at all. You can look up benchmarks yourself.
>>

disposable vapes only exist because government regulations made refillable customisable ones illegal to sell in many places, the laws benefit the existing tobacco giants because they all invested into vape companies and since you're not allowed to advertise, no new companies can ever get a foothold.

what the fuck is a streaming stick

It's a compact device that you plug directly into your TV's HDMI port and you get a full media center OS.

It's a tiny ARM pc with android installed on it
they are used as retro game consoles mostly but some use them as low power linux servers

This is literally half of what a low-mid tier old phone ranging from $15-$30, like a Moto G4 would cost you. Sure they are running almost decade old android versions, but most have MHL out so it's easy to turn them into whatever this stick thing is, just pair a bluetooth controller/keyboard and you're good to go.

they will literally PAY YOU to get your personal information
>>
If they could get away with giving them away for free they would. And they don't is scalpers would stockpile them.

They make their money on the subscriptions

it looks like a television remote control
>>
>>107670638
The remote is an accessory that comes with the computer

These will be worth thheir weight in gold when chip manufacture collapses after the government outlaws personal computing

and yet, due to Java-Jeet androidshit webshit code, doing anything on it takes ages and lags like a bitch
we have 15 dorra computers that are more powerful than any PC was in 1980, but you can't use them for anything

found the webview dev
java is way faster than web memes

Maybe I'm getting old and I'm out of touch because I literally refuse to interact with or have any part of television or phone related technology in my life, but this just looks like a USB stick and a tv remote. Who gives a fuck?
>>
>>107670794
The "usb stick" is a quad core computer
>>
>>107670794
Computers can fit on a USB stick now. Streaming devices are full fledged computers now. So are routers. So called smart streaming devices are more capable than routers. Anything that's marketed as smart has a computer in it. And you can run Linux if you have some technical ability. Some of them it's easy and others hard
>>
>>107670794
why are you even on /g/ if you're a tech hating boomer stuck in his ways
>>
>>107670483
am i supposed to stick a 7 inch long plastic piece of shit in the tv hdmi port?
>>

i'm 33

Third worlders LOVE these streaming sticks

t. mexican, they sell like hot bread because people are both too dumb to use and set up a real computer, and too addicted to the lowest quality slop
