is the shilling of Bazzite distro justified?
It'd go as far to say it's better for nufags than K/Ubuntu, Mint, Zorin and MX
>>107674107when people say this shit is optimized is it doing anything else that Arch does or is it the same?
>>107674475Not reallyIt’s “optimised” in the sense that it has a bunch of stuff preinstalled for gaming like Steam + gamescope, codecs, etc. it’s not going to turn a potato pc into a 4k gaming rig.
>>107674107Yes, it just werks and it's locked down like a Chromebook so retards can't mess it up.
Why do they use a macbook chassis for their advertisement? Is a stinkpad not aesthetic enough?
>>107674107bazzite-deck is pretty good on my old minipc as a light gaming HTPC. Occasionally I hit an odd issue where I need to sign back into Steam and re-enable Bluetooth, but otherwise it's rock solid and overall it's a significantly better experience than trying to use Windows on an HTPC.
>>107674107I used it for a while, it's very beginner friendly, but to a fault. If you've never used Linux before I can recommend it, but in an attempt to prevent people from messing stuff up they essentially disabled package managers, which makes many things a huge pain if you're used to Linux already. I switched to CachyOS and don't plan on switching back. I recommend both though, it just depends on your comfort level with Linux.
>>107674721I have a Debian server for hosting a bunch of shit and have had no issues managing packages and using the console in general. If I don't know how to do something I google it. I only use a light amount of the desktop environment though since I mostly just ssh.Would you say CachyOS is good for my level if I want to try getting into a Linux distro that can do gaming relatively well on my main PC?
It's just SteamOS but with Fedora.
>>107674721>they essentially disabled package managersrpm-ostree install <whatever-package>
>>107674689Yes. They even have an extra framework channel, because everyone knows that framework is what old Lenovo was.
>>107674824It has an extremely limited amount of packages, the second it's an obscure driver, non popular software, or a weird requirement for something, it likely won't have it. Example: Game Conquerer
>>107674107If you are normie that cares about just playing games then yes... if you want to play with your system it's fucking trash.
>>107674851Hmm. Works on my machine.
>>107674475Arch requires manual configuration to be optimized, specially for gaming. Bazzite doesn't.Nobody stops you from configuring Arch correctly though.
>>107675066Glad it works for you. I still prefer CachyOS.
>>107675093I just don't understand how somebody gets filtered by Bazzite of all things lol
>>107675106Fuck off.
>>107674107Its the actual just works, not breakable, pretty secure, gaming distro for people of all skill levels. Fedora atomic is a great base and it only expands on it. So yes, justified.
>>107674107it'll immediately filter normies when they run into an issue and every fix online is for non-immutable distros, or they want software that isn't a flatpakit's retarded
Why not just use Batocera?
>>107675144>every fix onlineYou think they'll be going to forums like a bunch of boomers now that AI exists?
It's sufficiently retard proof and seems to just work. I am a retard and I have managed to avoid fucking up anything in the roughly 2 months I've been using it so far. The only video game I've had trouble with is Skyrim for some reason, but that seems to be unique to me as far as I can tell.
All I needed for it to be unjustified, and for me to never recommend it, is to find that one of the applications preinstalled (on the Plasma version) didn't have a feature working well.I don't particularly care about that. But I imagine trying to show this to some normalfag, he's like "oh cool I can capture the deskt-- oh I guess I can't because the files are coming up empty".That I cannot reproduce this problem in different distros that also get shilled relentlessly (like CachyOS) makes it automatically not recommendable. Defaults must work thoroughly if it has to be -the- distro for retards.
>>107675402What are you saying..? That spectacle doesn't work on Bazzite?
>>107675423As of 2 weeks ago, when I tried it.Screenshots worked fine, recording desktop .webms didn't in VP9. All I could get were empty files. I should mention I was using an nvidia GPU, but I did choose specifically the right ISO for nvidia. I mean sure -I- can take the time to fix that shit myself, or I can install any other tool to do that, but I was looking for a quick way of doing that and I was a bit surprised it would actually fail to do something I was able to do a long time ago just fine elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who's constantly told "it just works". If it were something installed on top (like Davinci Resolve which is a mess, or a random flatpak) I wouldn't blame the distro, but spectacle is part of it.
>>107675484Oh, this is not Bazzite. I have this problem on Arch and my recording used to work perfectly. I am 999999999% sure this is Nvidia. The latest drivers are ultra fucked.I hate nvidia so much that I literally just bought a new AMD graphics card to replace it. It will probably start working if you downgrade to one of the early releases of the 585 driver.
>>107674652the btrfs data corruption bug affected Bazzite too, no? (the one back in july/august)
