Sure, putting in some work makes sense but with the requirements some of them have (e.g. HDB), I don't see them gaining many new users even if they recruit. Half of the users that join are probably jeets that trade invites with each other in telegram or some shit. I wouldn't say that "the private tracker world" is dying, just some of them are... slowly. As long as PT's like AB and GGn stay alive then I couldn't care less.

Having been in a scene group I will say downloading from FTP is a bit of a pain in the ass. People who only ever downloaded from torrents bitch about the rars. But in addition to allowing things to efficiently spread they also allow you to multithread your downloads. Sites allow you to log in so many times so you can just set your client to skip already existing files and have different rars from the same release downloading at the same time with different sessions. Or you could just download a torrent file and be done with it.
