Windows 8 had proper memory management which made it faster than 7 despite the new bloat. And with Windows 10 they added even more bloat and "muh security hardening" which fucked the performance again.

it was alright, i only moved from 7 to 8 because it handled multi-monitor taskbars better, otherwise it was a downgrade.

The Windows 8 kernel and other sub-systems seemed faster than in Windows 7. But the UI was complete shit designed for muh tablets.

Were you around using computers at the time? The reason 8 moved to that interface was to copy smartphones and make computing "more accessible" but the problem is how far it deviated from how pcs were used at the time that users really complained about relearning basic things
