I assume if you don't have to add new features on that thing, or at very few features, it might be worth to just leave it like that. And paying the high salary of FORTRAN or COBOL programmers ends up being worth for the company.

I assume banking is also particularly uneasy about changing codebases because you really don't want to screw that up when you are dealing with people's money.
