I don't want to use Debian, shit installer and old packages, all CLI system managementI don't want to use arch, shit CLI installer, breakages and unstableI don't want to use fedora, broken and needs codecs retardation out of the box is brokenI don't want to use opensuse, killing off yast for no reason something that works for 20+ years now fragmentingI don't want to use mint, cinnamon sucks, ugly blue grey guhnome theming, nemo is slower than windows 10 FM, no KDE plasma and the devs are mentally I'll and don't care about their spinsI don't want to use arch derivatives, mentally ill shit like cachyOS or endeavour OS. Idiotic forks with no futureI don't want to use kubuntu or ubuntu. Broken snaps and apt package manager integrated with snaps by default. So that's it huh, desktop Linux is dead
>>107691710Every Linux distro is broken, out of the box.Windows 11 is broken as well.So I suggest Windows Enterprise LTSC 2021.Till the support runs out, and let's hope it's all fixed by then.
>>107691710come home, tux.
As always the answer is just use debian. Just use Debian 13 KDE with discover.Use an all AMD PC, use flatpaks in discover. Done. Flatpaks carry the entire Linux desktop to where it really does just werk. They just werk. Latest version of steam with the latest mesa drivers on flatpak. If you want to use nvidia on linux, consider selling your GPU and replacing it with AMD. If you're going to use Linux use AMD.There's a reason why Debian has been forked 1000+ times. Its the best. Apt is the best. Its the most stable.
>>107691710There's no free lunch so pick the one you can live with.Gentoo and Slackware seem like the least user hostile builds. Debian is alright and testing can sometimes be a decent non-corporate daily driver, but you can't rawdog testing until like 6 months in the release cycle.
Linux distros are less about the packages newness in the repos now and moreover how well they support flatpak and kde with wayland.kde is the future competitor to windows 11 so any distro that is clean out of the box with flatpaks and kde discover will be good.flatpaks have made distros and alarge extent gaming problems obsolete since they just werk. Heroic games launcher flatpak and steam work flawlessly.
>>107691848>If you want to use nvidia on linux, consider selling your GPU and replacing it with AMD. If you're going to use Linux use AMD.Never understood this meme. nvidia cards work fine on linux and the nvidia linux drivers are way higher quality and crash way less & less issues like AMD reset bug, MES crash etc.
>>107691848>Use an all AMD PC, use flatpaks in discover. Done. Flatpaks carry the entire Linux desktop to where it really does just werk. They just werk. Latest version of steam with the latest mesa drivers on flatpak.NTA, but I will never use container images willingly. I hate the store concept and everything that represents for software. Just let your CI build a tarball containing the thing and any unicorn libraries that need to be exactly version X or Y. Then I can even run it from a flash drive if I want.
>>107691888For new users AMD like a 9070xt will be better than a 5080 because nvidia isn't supported out of the box on Linux. AMD works with no driver installs
>>107691900It's the most progress Linux has made in 15+ years unifying the desktop and getting ever so close to the coveted mythical year of the Linux desktop.Flatpaks for Normie's are great on Linux. One click install just works on every machine exactly the same, no fragmentation.KDE is also a good project because its a clean, good looking modern desktop that's fast, and a real competitor to windows 11
>>107691888I had an Nvidia card once. Then support was dropped and I had about 3 months where nouveau couldn't use it and the proprietary driver wouldn't either. But the main thing that made me say "Never again nvidia" was that I got sick of doing DKMS builds on every kernel update.Eventually I got rid of DKMS and just started a maintenance cycle of>drop to TTY1>/etc/init.d/lightdm stop / /etc/init.d/gdm stop>package manager to update kernel (or a kernel compile if I was doing something special)>update grub>reboot into new kernel (X will not start now and that's fine)>log back into TTY1>Nvidia installer>reboot into new kernel again>doneDKMS is a fragile gacha that sometimes would automagically work and sometimes it would still fuck up in unpredictable ways.
>>107691883>how well they support flatpak and kde with wayland.>kde is the future competitor to windows 11 so any distro that is clean out of the box with flatpaks and kde discover will be good. Can I have some of what you're smoking? I'd also like to utterly detach myself from any semblance of reality, like you have.
>>107691848>They just werk. Latest version of steam with the latest mesa drivers on flatpakno they don't stop spreading lies troon, flatpak steam is a crutch for dogshit distros who can't into multilib and proper driver support.
>>107691937But it's true doe.Valve is funding KDE so VRR and HDR just werk on Wayland compositors. They are also funneling money to flatpak devs working with KDE. The future is KDE Wayland with flatpaks as a competitor to windows. Everything else is quite irrelevant. KDE is much snappier and faster than windows and it looks much cleaner. My only complaint is the themes store they have built into the desktop, its tacky.
>>107691710>I don't want to use arch derivatives, mentally ill shit like cachyOS or endeavour OS. Idiotic forks with no futureIs taking over arch on steam survey next year what you define as no future?
>>107691710just use windows
just use macOS its the best of both worlds just works and it cures tinkertrannyism
>>107691710>So that's it huh, desktop Linux is deaddesktop Linux is dead for YOU
>>107691710Stop being a retard and install gentoo
