I don't get it, why aren't people upgrading your RIG now if you know you'll need to replace it within the next 5 years? Even consoles are going up in price, steam machine is looking to be near $1k and PS5 Pro is $700 for console and prob another $150 for peripherals.

Generational leaps in graphics aren't really gonna happen anymore and the 5090/4090 might last for a decade.
>>
>might last for a decade
imagine not knowing about capacitor lifespan,
high end products have a 5 year warranty for a reason.
>>
I did that, except instead of MSI I did Asus, and instead of a 5090, i'm keeping my 4070Ti for the next few years.

Also instead of 64GB of RAM I did 48GB.
>>
>>107703402
I already did my long-term upgrade when tariff shenanigans were looming.
>>
>>107703402
>might last for a decade
they don't even have enough compute power for now, how im supposed to run a full fledged AI model on just 32G of VRAM.
>>

Sure? 3080 to 4080 was a 50% jump, 4080 to 5080 was a 30% jump.
>>
I have more fun playing older games then new games
>>
>>107703455
You buy a RTX 6000 Blackwell?
>>
>>107703402
I just don't have a need for a more powerful computer now. All games worth playing (pre-2020) work really well and the devtools are fast.
>>
>>107703402
the RTX 3090 was best in class, its barely 5 years old and its done. not good enough for modern sloppas.

same will apply to the 5090, wake up

What are you on about? Compute power =! VRAM and vice versa.

I haven't upgraded anything for years, and I don't think I will soon. Maybe the GTX1070 is starting to be obsolete, but that's not even my priority.
Maybe i'll get a Switch 1 instead, now that they're cheap af.
>>
>>107703490
The jump from 3090 to 4090 was 73%. Yes, SEVENTY THREE!!! Almost double the performance of a 3090.
Two GPUs that are TWO years apart.
>>
>>107703500
You can already emulate anything Switch 1 on your PC at much better framerate, resolution and with mods, for free (games too).
>>
>>107703505
and any performance increases above 60FPS are diminishing returns.
a game running at 90 FPS isnt vastly superior to the same game running at 60 FPS, its a slight improvement that most normies wouldnt even notice. you're massively overrating performance gains between generations.
>>
>vram shortages
>ram shortages
>nvidia no longer bundling vram with chips
>flash storage shortages
>nvidia reducing production in 2026
it's truly past the right time to upgrade. generational improvements might still be significant, but you can expect prices for everything to skyrocket.
>>
>>107703491
shut up idiot, i want to run models that have more than 34B parameters, you uncultured prick.

Yes that's already what i'm doing, but my desktop PC isn't portable.
Also once I tried to play Mario Party with friends but the controller we had didn't support the motion gaming

60 FPS vs 90 FPS is a huge jump

Who cares about normies? I want to play 144+ FPS on my 4k OLED.

you are gonna sit on the sidelines for 1-2 years looking at people playing GTA6 my nigga, worst timing

might aswell buy a PS5 Pro+QDOLED Tv and wait for the 6090 release with half the wattage and 50%-100% raster/RTX increase

That's pretty much what the jump was from 3080 Ti to 4080, not even 4090

48GB kits are still somewhat okay if you're near a microcenter.

Because you can afford something they can't.
Every time someone calls you a consumer as an argument, it's because of that. Just ignore.

>>

Same build except asus proart mobo with 10gig networking and a 3090. The 3090 is the new 1080 ti and will last until the industry implodes.

There's new models every week, it's like Christmas 52 times a year.

I'm doing one more giga rig in 2027 with a 6090 and whatever high cache chip wins the CPU war, then I'm fucking done for a while and hope China invades Taiwan to cement my correct decisions.

That sir, is one of the retarded niggers that gives money to jufus for his "optimizer course". It never ceases to amaze how this Leaf keeps managing to scam people. He literally tricks people into spending thousands for an "overclocked" 14900K system from him instead of just slotting a faster 9800x3d into a AM5 socket. The argument? its lower latency with better 1% lows. Oh right its got a 10% higher minimum frame-rate in a handful of the worst e-sports games that nobody wants to play like call of faggot.

Lmao kill yourself.

it's the same platform, 9800X3D, I also got a high-end X870E motherboard, and a high-end modular PSU to last me the next 5+ years.

The only differences are the brands I bought, and the fact I got 2x24GB instead of 2x32GB.

Also I am keeping my existing 4070Ti instead of buying a 5090 now, since I sure as fuck will be able to buy a better GPU in 2-3 years for less than $3.3k. (the price of a 5090 today).

The point of the post is to buy the platform while the RAM is still affordable enough, because in another 6-18 months, the prices we're seeing today will seem cheap.

I went from a 2011 2600K to a 2023 14900K so I’m good to 2030 or so now. I think it all came out to about $3000 for everything.

>14900k
>6600mhz 64GB Corsair Dominator RAM
>Strix Z790-E G Wifi II
>1000W Corsair PSU
>8TB PCIe 4, 2TB PCIe 5 SSDs
>Used EVGA 3090ti

Feeling pretty good! Next month I might get an M5 Pro MBP to complement it.

>>
>>107703500
I had the same system but with a GTX 1080 Ti at the start of the year.
Moved onto an AMD 9950X3D and a RTX 5090 with 64 GB of RAM several months ago.
The difference is very sizeable, but if you're not playing triple-A slop, then it's not a complete gamechanger.
