what are some alternatives to OLEDI can afford top range OLED but I cannot afford to change it every 2-3 years, I mean I can but I would find that wasteful. It will used connected to a PC because fuck Smart TV, all I care about is a good panel.was considering TCL but they have half the dimming zones in EU compared to the US
Oled gets spammed by poojoos almost as much as apple crap on hereIPS is great, lasts basically forever or something

>>107704661The 2-3 years thing is complete fabrication. If you're really worried about burn in then just have your monitor go to sleep after x minutes of inactivity. Burn in is essentially a non issue if you're not retarded.

>>107704661Anon just take the OLED pill, all panels turn to shit eventually.
>>107704725I'm pretty sure it's the chinkjeets, in that instance. The pajeets don't have that much presence on 4shill, in general.
>>107704725>>107704911>tfw chinks and jeets can afford OLEDs but whities can't
>>107704792this, with some adjustments you can make miniled look very close to oled (or even better if it has high peak brightness with hdr)Not only is it cheaper its drawbacks are also fairly minimal compared to oled
>>107704937you need a lot of zones and usually smaller screens don't have that manyfor 4k you really want a big tv or you'll get bad glow
I've been using LG C2 Evo for 3 years, every day for 8hrs+ and it's still absolutely perfect. No dimming, no dead pixels, no issues of any kind. It's a god-tier screen. Everything else looks like shit. I've also had a pleasure to check out my friend's C5 and I couldn't tell much difference when using it as a monitor.I couldn't see myself ever using:a non- OLED screen,or a screen smaller than 40".Also, when deciding between 48" and 42", go for 42".Let me know if you need tips on how to set it up.

>>107704991>I am on 65inch currently>was even considering a 77inch LG b4Wat? Do you use your computer from across the room? It's impossible to use a screen that big as a monitor without moving away 5-6'.40-42" is the absolute sweet-spot for 4K monitor use since the PPI will be above 100.42" is 104.9 PPI48" is 91.79 (still decent)but 77 is 67.78 which is too chunky.W-OLED arrangement of LG screens is also not too weird which means that most of the OSes will work with it just fine and text rendering will be crisp. If you use other types of OLED screens, expect text to be slightly blurry.

>>107705070>W-OLED arrangement of LG screens is also not too weird which means that most of the OSes will work with it just fine and text rendering will be crisp. If you use other types of OLED screens, expect text to be slightly blurry. It was only ever an issue with ClearType on Windows.
>>107705070>moving away 5-6'.about that, it's a big room I also used to use for VR
>>107704965they're fine if you're not going for 240hz where even the best minileds overshoot up the wazoo
>>107704730NTA but do they not last very long?
>>107704661If you're talking about a TV where you just watch full-screen video then OLED is fine. It won't get raped in 2-3 years of reasonable video watching, not unless you keep it on all day or something. If you're talking about a computer monitor then it will indeed get raped quickly and you should get some LCD with local dimming instead.
>>107705564it won't if you actually care for itbut then again even 4k minileds are quite cheap
>>107705564>>107705588you don't even need to care, see >>107704848
>>107705564>>107705588If anything for PC use it will last longer since you'll NEVER use it at 100% emitter brightness for desktop use, maybe max 25%.
>>107705070>40-42" is the absolute sweet-spot for 4K monitor use since the PPI will be above 100.if you think there's no use case for ppi above 100 you're clinically blind.
I don't even know what my monitor is. It doesn't say, so I assume LCD. Literally fine.

>>107705697I'm sure there is. It's just that your eye cannot perceive pixels above 120PPI or so at 28". I think this is what Apple calls "Retina Display".I am quite content with ~110.
>>107705083>It was only ever an issue with ClearType on Windows. No, it's an issue with all OSes since they don't support subpixel rendering of non-RGB layouts. WOLED is the closest to RGB and looks OK. Text on QD-OLED looks fuzzy af. Open a text editor and just start comparing text to see how bad it is.But it's a known issue and people are working on it: https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/25595
>>107706299>it's an issue with all OSes since they don't support subpixel rendering of non-RGB layouts. You can literally define a arbitrary sub-pixel layout with FreeType. Even on Windows you can use MacType (port of FreeType to Windows) to fix that. It's ClearType that won't let you define sub-pixels individually.
>>107706299maybe read the thread you posted?
>>107704661OLED biggest advantage that nobody talks about is that it has less layers = thinner and lighter. Which is hardly relevant to a desktop monitor. You can beta testing for tandem OLED I guess
>>107706299
>>107706324>You can literally define a arbitrary sub-pixel layout with FreeType. Even on Windows you can use MacType (port of FreeType to Windows) to fix that.MacType is a resource hog. Don't know about Freetype since I don't use Linux. There is no native non-RGB/BGR pixel layout support for Windows atm. Heck, even using the monitor in vertical layout orientation looks like shit for text without some serious hacks. Now, mind you, a lot of this can be mitigated by choosing a higher PPI screen.>>107706333I've been subbed to it for over a year.
