The problem with usb is that the sides are perfectly vertical and square, there is no taper whatsoever, so unless you can see the port its almost impossible to align. There is no tactile feedback to guide you in, the plug is just sliding against the shield, and you have no idea which direction to move it to bring it into alignment.

USB 1, 2 and 3 full size ports ARE fucking stupidly designed. I will agree with this. The best design would be like a + sign.
