Midi is a 90s audio format that works through reading instructions. Its completely dated and irrelevant in today's world. Last night I downloaded a zip on archive.org full of them. I was about to make a thread asking for a good midi player on Linux that didn't require a big ass UI for midi producers or cli only like mplayer, but then solved the problem.To play midi on Linux simply install vlc-plugin-fluidsynth.x86_64fluidsynth.x86_64fluidsynth-libs.x86_64then just open VLC. Now you can play midi just as flawless as a Windows 95

mpv can play a few midis but not most of them. And it requires a special compile flag to play midi for ffmpeg.
