I don't know too much about hardware other than what they general do and where they go on a motherboard, but I'm assuming ram generations are also different internally and not just different on how they slot in. I think that's why they even change how they slot in because they don't want someone slotting in the wrong type of ram into the motherboard. Could be wrong though. Well, I'm pretty sure I managed to cook my wife's CPU (i5 13600k) letting it run simulations for grad school. Using psensor it was keeping around 65 C and would have occasional spikes to around 85 C. When I drop it into the new case I'm going to replace the cheap rando-brand AiO that's on it with a phantom spirit.

I'd personally try to get 7000-7200Mhz CL34/36 or similar, that increase in bandwidth is more than worth the small latency tradeoff.

Even just going from 6600mhz to 7200mhz is a whole lot better for modern 200 series intel. You're essentially trading in ~3% worse latency for ~9% more bandwidth.

Realistically without golden silicon, you're going to hit a wall around 6600-6800Mhz with 4 DIMMs of 24GB DDR5 on Z890 Intel. With CUDIMMS you can push that up to ~7200Mhz, but 7000Mhz is the only thing you can buy that's qualified for 4 sticks.

I hope the RAMpocolyps doesn't fuck up CAMM2 for the consumer space.

It finally fixes RAM's biggest issues, blocking airflow across the board, and needing to figure out if you want 2 sticks or 4 sticks. Now you just buy a CAMM2 module in whatever size/speed configuration you need/want.

16-48GB CAMM2 modules clocked 8000-10000Mhz for gaming, and 64-192GB CAMM2 modules clocked at ~6400-8000mhz for productivity tasks.

5900X and 4090 is good enough for now, waiting on AM6 there were some leaks on the new processors.
I usually avoid getting a new socket Mobo and always got the latest CPU on the old socket since there are generally teething problems with new memory, this time since prices are whacked might as well get the best I can if I am splurging.

CPU is currently my main bottleneck, GPU is fine with leg room for future optimizations like foveated rendering but the CPU takes a hit.

The pro-art mobos are always super overpriced but also have great IO and features for productivity uses.
