Why are these things still made and used? Most phones don't include a slot for them, and they're the only device small (if modern phones can even be called that) enough to justify using them over a full size card. I know the Switch and Steam Deck use them, but those are also big enough that they surely could've made them with full-size cards in mind
>>

They are for devices that will be obsolete in 5 years but still exist, like digital cameras, go pros, and dashcams
>>
>>107709355
>digital cameras
Those use full size cards
>that will be obsolete in 5 years
kek, good one
>>
>>107709349
A metric fuckton of manufacturing equipment has slots for them, from home 3D printers which are now in most households to industrial robots. Also cameras and drones... people buy them like there is no tomorrow.

For long term usage, you would commonly use the industrial grade ones though.

>hurr let me carry around a tiny plastic shit to transfer my data!!!
lol. millennials continue to suffer by choice
>>
>>107709355
modern cameras have good enough quality to never be fully obsolete
>>
>>107709349
They are amazing for retro gaming, you wouldn't believe how many games I can fit in my old r4i flashcart using these

>A metric fuckton of manufacturing equipment has slots for them
I get it for existing installations, but why add the smaller variant when your machine is gonna be fucking huge anyway?
>>107709425
Non-sequitor
>>107709438
That one I understand, but I don't see retro gaming being enough of a market to warrant most places primarily stocking up on micro (Then again, I've only seen MicroSD on handheld flashcarts, all home console ones use full size)
>>
>>107709481
Protip: a buzzword doesn't magically prove your opinion right. SD cards are tiny pieces of plastic shit physical media. By 2035 everything will be transmitted wirelessly.
>>
>>107709508
>Why do devices big enough to use full size cards use the smaller, worse variant?
>Local storage is obsolete
>It's not
>HAHAHAHAHAHA, BRO WANTS TO USE LOCAL STORAGE
>That still doesn't answer my question
>HAHAHAHAHA, BRO THINKS HE BTFO'D ME WITH A BUZZWORD LMAO
>>
>>107709527
Yeah, you're the retard. Not sure what else you wanted to hear
>>
>>107709531
I accept your concession
>>
>>107709355
>go pros, and dashcams
Bingo. GoPros are durable to go in places you wouldn't want to put your phone to film, but cheap enough that it's not a huge loss if it does get smashed up. Dashcams are something you want to always just be there and go automatically whenever you turn on the car; plus they're often wired to rear cameras too. And both of these benefit from having everything stored on a small memory card you can likely recover and read footage off even if the device it's in gets destroyed.
>>
Wait. Modern phones don't have slots anymore? Why not?
>>
>>107709508
Local storage is what keeps a burglar from disabling all your security cameras just by having a cheap cell jammer from Aliexpress in his pocket.
>>
>>107709604
So they can charge you way more for a 1 TB model, and so you'll buy more than you need because you know you won't be able to simply jam a cheap SD card in it when you run low on storage.

Yes, anon... They take pictures clearer than what our eyes can see, and still photos remain relevant in a world with high definition video and VR because not everything needs to be moving.

wrong

Cameras won't become "obsolete" that quickly, not while a use case for the industry still exists, at least. It will certainly become more niche first, just like physical media is niche nowadays for most people.
>>
>>107709621
i guarantee you at least one troonixfag is using these here

>I know the Switch and Steam Deck use them, but those are also big enough that they surely could've made them with full-size cards in mind
It would increase thickness. Besides, what the point of using bigger format when smaller one will do? MicroSDs are fully compatible with full size SD cards. I shoot a lot of photos and all of my cards besides 2 high speed ones are microsd.
>>107709432
>modern cameras have good enough quality to never be fully obsolete
I would say that even CF based cameras are still decent.

Kek. I remember being this young and innocent. Magitek is a good way to cope with learning Santa Claus isn't real.

SBCs
Xperia phones
My laptop
that's three things I enjoy which have a slot for a microsd card, not a full SD card slot.
