In the medium term Cosmic will end up being the biggest deal. For over a decade GNOME and KDE have sucked in very different ways from each other but their ideologies were so different that if you wanted or needed to use Wayland you generally could tolerate one and not the other so there was no competition. Having a third nontrivial player will make it like the Xorg days and hopefully KDE gets less ugly and buggy and GNOME gets more functional.
