>>107717425That's the really bloated way that will essentially run ffmpeg in the background 24/7 but the correct Windows-native way is to install Web Media Extensions and VP9 Media Extensions from the Microsoft Store. They're actually installed by default but OP probably fell for the debloater meme and removed them without knowing what he was removing. There are several others that have been enumerated on /g/ before idk check the archives.

>>107717468All media codecs are proprietary. Yes even the open pool ones.
>>107717473>says that flac (free lossless audio codec) is proprietary
>>107717515I don't know what to tell you, the patents for FLAC have not expired yet in any country that matters. The Xiph software library that is asininely named simply flac instead of libflac is BSD 3-clause but the codec itself is still proprietary and software that implements the patents is not redistributable in most jurisdictions no matter what the license says.
>>107717270>>107717444I have a relatively clean Windows 10 install on a notebook, and it just werks. It has the WebP Image Extension installed, but I don’t think that matters. Maybe OP doesn't have Media Feature Pack installed.
