I had two Seagate. One became faulty and had to be replaced under warranty, another one went just bust two years after purchasing.
2TB hdd went down with all my criterion collection.
I WISH THEM DEATH EVERY FUCKING DAY.

all the three manufacturers have the same defect rates overall, some serials are known to have slightly higher defects especially on particular capacities like above 28TB or with hamr but that's about it, it's usually easy to id and avoid them.

high-capacity datacenter hdd have a special noise they make every 5seconds (no, not the zfs 5s write), it's called preventive wear leveler and iut's a known thing in the dc world but I've seen many average coomsumers thinking their hdd was broken because of it.

NEVER buy two disks that will work together (same pool, raid, etc) from the same batch

I (we at work) have more issues with wd drives desu and it's getting worse with time, I don't know what's happening at this company but it really looks like they're giving up on making good stuff, it would not surprise me if wd sells itself and kills the wd brand.
