How would technology be today if he had accepted?
>>
Linux would stagnate and XNU would get worse.
>>
Most likely we'd still be here but rather using BSD and things would be much more slower in terms of development. In example we'd probably be on par with 2015 Linux in 2026.
>>
Smartphones as we know them today wouldn't have happened
>>

Apple was the first to make a smartphone. Android was and still is a cheap copy cat. Apple didn't need Linux to make them. If anything Blackberry was their biggest motivation to make a smartphone to win the market over.

Most Americans would read this as a cautionary tale.

He'd make a new kernel, better than Linux because he'd start from scratch with lessons learned from before. Whether that would matter for Macfags, probably not.
The BSD derivative for macs is OK as is. The Windows NT kernel is also OK. Most of the problems of non-Linux OSs stem from bad 1st party user space software and shady corpo decisions.

If Linus had accepted Jobs' offer, all that would happen is whoever was the 2nd developer in charge after Linus would take over the kernel, and things would be different, but not too different. Linus doesn't work on Git or Subsurface either, and both of those are good software. I'm sure Linus would have had made the right choice in picking his second in line if he had to step down.

Has Bill Gaytes ever wrote a single line of code in his whole life?
>>
>>107733217
Bill Gates used the reverse card, retard. That means that Linus is the best programmer.

Nothing, they don't want to spend money on research so every feature you know they have has been a thing before Apple. They just implement it after it's been invented.
>inb4 yeah but they polished it to be pretty looking so technicall-
No.

Most open source hinges on the goodwill or epenis of autism nerds. You realize this is not a permanent thing right?
Look at the younger generations

Microsoft engineers got paid full time by Microsoft to fix Linux.
If the software is good enough, it's not a big deal even if Linus suddenly goes TOTAL TRANNY DEATH. Someone will fix it.
>>
>>107733055
Terrible. I finally escaped windows to Linux and if he stopped I'd have no option but to keep letting Microsoft fuck me.

>How would technology be today if he had accepted?
We would've done away with the "don't break userspace" mindvirus and be properly using NVMes and graphics cards on Linux. Instead we got io_uring, which is the final nail in Linux' coffin.

Ironic considering every single iPhone feature after the concept of an app is just something that was available on Android for years.
