2026 is finally our year, PC Gamer confirms.
>>107734112>PC Gamer>Believing video game journalistsShake my fucking head
Linux will never reach the level of backwards compatility for gaming that Windows provides. Anyone that ever tries it will switch back when they're either sick of dual booting or not being able to do everything in Linux. It will always be irrelevant.
>>107734186It's easier to run 00s games on linux than windows. Go ahead, download some random abandonware and see for yourself.
>>107734186The curse of shit quality commie software.
>>107734186>the level of backwards compatility for gaming that Windows providespfffffttt
>>107734186Linux runs more Windows software than Windows 11
>>107734112>gamingabsolutely>everyday desktop useironically, still shit
>>107734186>Linux will never reach the level of backwards compatility for gaming that Windows providesYou gotta be trolling
>>107734186Try running the japanese version of type-moons tsukihime. I ran it on linux without trouble. It's mixed-mode. If linux can do that it can do anything
Why the focus on gaming? Most people don't even play video games, and the majority that do play mobile shit on their phones.90% of the population does not need a desktop/laptop computer that plays triple-A, kernel-level anticheat MMO bullshit
>>107734383Works on windows 7 EZ.
>>107734396no you need daemon tools or a cd rom drive. Otherwise you will BGMs won't play.
>>107734389>Why the focus on gaming?Because it's an article from a gaming-focused website, retard
>>107734112Saarnix is finally user friendly for redeeming
>>107734435posting an outdated graph of a website that can't properly assert what half of its traffic is isn't really convincing
>>107734186>backwards compatility>in the era of Windows fucking 11You could have named other aspects but this one is a joke
>>107734435microsoft india really needs to step it up, this is sloppy
>>107734223>Go ahead, download some random abandonwareThat's not a nice way to refer to Linux distros
>>107734389There are far more people who play games than people who own any form of personal computer for non-gaming reasons, outside of a phone.
>>107734636we're at the point where i'd take an eol linux distro than an actively maintained microsoft product
>>107734112There’s a difference between “argues” and “proves,” anon.>>107734186 is right. Deal with it, Reddit.
>>107734664Can't wait for them to not perf-test this against the existing codebase and push it out to live.
>>107734664>we're at the pointYou were always at the point of being trans

>>107734223does anyone have that old 2ch screenshot about using windows for porn games?
>>107734940well it became uncool when corpofags got in on it and Luke tried to save it but ended up FAILboating so hard that it became an EPIC FAIL
>>107734960No but I have this
>>107734112>took 30+ years to finally get to a state that its user friendlyWtf have devs been doing this whole time
>>107734112I'm a gamer and I now use arch as main os and have for about 4 months. Usb stick archinstall and that's it's I also tell my mates who are getting angry at Microsoft from bad updates. It's happening windows is becoming a secondary thing. I just wish more companies started prioritising Linux like epic games and mainly battle net.

>>107734186>Linux will never reach the level of backwards compatility for gaming that Windows provides. You can tell winjeets is superior by how much people have to tell objective lies about the competition
>>107734396>windows 7tranny os
>>107734383linux can do that because the kneesocks wearing shitfighters that make up the dev base are autistically obsessed with that sort of shit. now go implement thumbnails and see what happens.
>>107735020Being supreme autists and pretending that a horrifically bad user experience for anyone not already intimately familiar with the technology was a feature and not a bug
>>107735020autism fueled clout wars.
>>107734186You're living in the past. This hasn't been true for many years now. For a while there was PlayOnLinux and now there's Lutris. Linux users have been enjoying it just werks™ for about a decade.Gone are the days when you had to manually figure out wine settings and swap out wine versions. Any tech illiterate can use Linux Mint and something like Lutris and just install their game with no headaches.
>>107734186>Linux will never reach the level of backwards compatility for gaming that Windows provides.*laughs in WINE*Sure, Jan.gifHell, DXVK7 is starting to work on earlier DirectX's pre-7 to bring them into Proton's fold. It's never been more over for Windows than it is now (unless you care about Kernel anti-cheat).
>>107735218Nah, good luck making mods for games work on linux when they depend on a windows filesystem and shitloads of windows libraries/dlls.
>>107735237This is heavily game dependantSonic Adventure modding filtered me hard but for most other games I play it's as easy as doing it on Windows
>>107735237Is there some game in particular you have in mind or is this a strawman?Off hand I do not know what game with mods would not function on Linux. For many games that would be an unacceptable level of incompatibility for Wine or Lutris and players would rightfully file bug reports. If something like Oblivion didn't work with mods, nobody would play it on Linux.
>>107735237>>107735287Oh, I just remembered Onirism, modding that one didn't work out of the box, you have to use protontricks to enable winhttp.dllI should play more Unity games with modding scenes, maybe it's a common thing for all of them
>>107735300Consider Skyrim with hundreds of mods.
>>107735326Skyrim with mods doesn't work on Linux?
>>107734112I recently switched from Windows to Linux (Fedora), and I have to say it still isn't close enough for regular person's use.For instance, I had several cases of total OS hangup due to 100%ing my RAM. That never happened on Windows because it comes with pagefile set up, and Windows seems to deal with maxed out RAM more gracefully in general.Setting up a pagefile on Linux isn't difficult or anything, but it does require you to launch terminal, google/ask AI what commands are needed... also you need to install a program "neveroom" (or something like that) that will prevent Linux from locking up even if RAM+pagefile are both 100%d, and it somehow doesnt come preinstalled on a desktop distro. So fixing the problem already demands of you to have a certain level of knowledge about computers. Normies won't deal with this shit. Linux is great but honestly the "normie friendly" distros still don't get it.
>>107734186Does anyone know if Wine or whatever wrapper/compatibility layer can run 16 bit programs?Isn't that a major point of Windows still, being able to run ancient software? Or is nu-windows unable to do this?
>>107735345That's kind of your fault for installing Fedora. You should have picked a distro that holds your hand even more. When Linux users advocate Linux to tech illiterates, they should always recommend distros that are very friendly to tech illiterates and do everything out of the box.
>>107735345Even the Gentoo installation manual includes a swap partition in the default partitioning scheme as part of the standard installation instructions. Fedora has dropped the ball here but other distros don't forget something so basic. Or maybe you skipped a step during the Fedora installation? I dunnohttps://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Full/Installation#Default_partitioning_scheme
>>107735458What's the point of swap in 2026? I can't think of the last time I needed it on either windows or linux. Except this one time I had to deal with a shittily written python script that loaded a gigantic AI model into memory all at once for no reason (it still only worked on one layer at a time)

>>107735582Hibernation Allowing programs to use more RAM than physically available
> Windows is finally so bad that it's worse than LinuxHe might be right
>>107734389Only SEAmonkeys and Indians would say that.PC Gaming is very popular
seems to be the case. I thought I hit a wall when I couldn't run Tormented Souls 2, but all it took was a Fedora KDE Update and now it works flawlessly, faster than Windows in fact
>>107735345you know I had similar issues running AI workflows but then I upgraded to 64GB of RAM and now Fedora blows Windows out of the water
the jews will never allow this
I had a PC Gamer subscription in the 90s. It was the only way to find out about games back then, they are thoroughly ruined by DEI but I guess there's some based editors that survived, but he will get fired for writing this article
