I left OpenBSD because it didn't run well on my hardware and I wanted drm on browser. I switched to Void with musl. I fuckin hate linux ecosystem so much, but my laptop is 15 years old and I need the speed. I'm.. I'm sorry.I will be back when I get a different machine.
>>107735935>my laptop is 15 years old and I need the speedTry NetBSD anon

>>107735935Totally get your situation anon - would recommend something which would I would normally have never given a second glance - but did specifically for this exact same reason - x13 thinkpad gen1 amd. They're cheap and work 100% fine with openbsd. I didn't want to break out past the x230 and while it does work just fine its too slow. with the x13 and used bsdfreq keeping it at nice - zero fan - frequencies I can get just slightly slower speeds than the x230 on parabola.
>>107735935>I _need_ DRM in my web browser so I can continue paying for content I could have gotten for free>no, I refuse to set-up my own jellyfin and mpd server>yes, I will praise any shitty Linux distro that bends over and takes it up the ass from big tech>no, I refuse to learn how torrents, xdcc bots on irc or how usenet works>yes, I'm a lazy faggot with shit taste in media>yes, I'm too stupid to enable widevine support in ChromiumOk.
>>107735996for normal desktop usage use linux honestly at this point after my last stroke i use chatgpt to use my computer
>>107736272just use fucking docker >>107736272>>107736272as much of a freebsd basedboy i am , you should use DockSTARTer / Saltbox
Genuine question: why not just use luynoox?
>>107736807linux sucks
>>107736807Personally;>Better documentation (man pages actually exist)>Better kernel and the concept of base system (linux is terrible in both respects)>Better support for foreign software/more foreign users/developers (mostly Japanese don't really care about any other non-English outsiders)>Community consists of actual developers instead of LARPing faggots (NetBSD and OpenBSD)>Tools are better for managing the system (sysctl, ifconfig vs. ip, coreutils are much better etc.)>No constant churn of BS re-writes of existing software shoved in as default with zero testing only to be quickly replaced again in a couple of years. The stuff I used and learned in mid-90s is the stuff we're still using today>Much much higher quality community to interact with IRL at hackerthons and cons>No constant licensing autism>No idol worship (even Theo gets called a faggot on a daily basis)>better firewall/networking tools (pf is amazing and I refuse to use anything else these days)>All the Win32/NT/POSIX software I need just werks>Ports are much higher quality and better integrated with the rest of the system>Meaningful security mitigations other OSs will never get or waited 20+ years to implement badly>Installation of much easier than installing Linux even on laptops like thinkpads (nothing beats OpenBSD's installation script)>Ports are better than anything offered by any linux distro (Gentoo is close)>Community is actually helpful instead of being a discord server full of LARPers shitposting>Better hardware support (no contest)>Better drivers (wifi on OpenBSD is miles ahead of anything else)>Best display server available (Xenocara mogs everything. NetBSD's and FreeBSD's Xorg is also very good)>Most ports continue to offer a binary for GTK2 versions of software (like emacs)>Solutions to problems can always be found in man pages or handbook instead of having to rely on random forum posts or a stupid wiki filled with outdated informationMany more reasons..
