I think people were confused about the period where internet was mostly rich pc owning 1st wolders and websites were trying to grow, and not requiring accs was a way to lure people in.

Now that we're in the era of 1bil indians online websites really, REALLY want to force people to use accs first since they already have all the worlds valuable customers anyway and its only 3rdies or children coming online
