>IDC expects Apple to ship just 45,000 new units of the Vision Pro in the last quarter of 2025. >The overall market for virtual reality headsets fell 14 per cent year on year, according to Counterpoint Research. https://archive.is/aym6b
>>107740527>Why VR fail?>posts that pic>'starts at' $3,499say what you like about Jobsbut he'd have booted cunts 3x right round 1 Infinite Loop for even suggesting releasing absolute shit like this.
>>107740527No cheap chink alternative
>>107740527For me it was Mark Cuckerberg. My friend had the DK1 and when I tried it I was sold. I got the DK2 and demoed it to so many people, it was a great time. I even made a VR version of one of my games. Then Facebook bought Occulus then fire Luckey and I completely mentally checked out.I stopped using my DK2, Stopped showing people demos, stopped working on VR games and never bought another VR headset ever again. However that one little moment in between was special. I learned women really wanted to look at naked bodies in VR...
People don't think of that as actual VR. To most "virtual reality" is the holodeck. Until you are offering that, don't bother.
Too expensive. No one wants to put a device on their head just to use it. sabemun
It's a novelty item, the vast majority of people won't wear goggles because they know it makes them look retarded plus it's against our natural instincts to have your vision impeded, especially in public
>>107740813And you know that because?
>>107740527maybe its just me but I have fundamental problems with these blocky things you wear on your head. everyone who tried wearing even something like open-ear headphones notice that these things WILL get heavy and hot over a long duration. I strongly believe the think the target audience for these things only wear them for 20-30 minutes at a time. no I want to wear them for 8+ hours at a time. I dont even believe its technically possible to make them so light and comfortable that you will be able to do so.
TVs and monitors are still too cheap
>>107741605oh, trust me. I know.
>>107740813People confuse Jobs being a complete sociopath loon with his being incompetent, nothing could be further from the truth. You compare Apple's standard of design back in his day to what we're getting now and it's night and day. MacOS 26 looks like a GNOME theme.
>>107740527Who would buy a retarded gadget for $6000 in current economy?
-It was way too expensive, these goggles need to cost $499 at tops, not over few grand.-Too big and unwieldy. Only recently they've started becoming more sensible regarding size, pic related.-Screen tech wasn't good enough.-GPUs weren't powerful enough to run VR games at proper resolutions and now that they are, they still cost a shitton of money.-Should be a standalone unit to begin with.-Not enough content.Basically VR came out way too early to get any mass adoption. It was like releasing a product in Alpha without any ecosystem for it, expecting everyone to buy it and then building the systems afterwards. It does however have it's own niche userbase that's having a really good time with it.
>>107740527VR has to win somehow, the key is to not make it heavy and to make it cheap
>>107740527Apple VR failed because for some insane reason they decided to not cater for the two biggest VR customers : gamers and coomers
>>107740527There is practically no use case besides some 30 minute gaming sessions.
>>107740527can you watch your own videos on this or do apple force you to consoom slop from their apple store only?
>>107741246What the fuck are you even talking about, holodeck isn't even called virtual reality in the show. Virtual reality has been around IRL since the 90s and to everyone it means the same thing, a helmet on your head and hand tracking on your hands.
>>107740527>apple release it with no content>apple dont make any content>nothing on Apple TV+ comes out for it>apple cockblock anyone else from making content for itwhat the actual fuck are these clowns doing?
>>107742052The fact that 99% of 3D movie catalogue is not available in any home format whatsoever is mind boggling to me. There's like 50 movies in total you can watch in 3D on a headset
Apple tries to enter a two decade old marked with an overpriced device and wonder why it doesn't sell?
