Is BitLocker good? The Windows default password can be easily bypassed, but I keep hearing people talk about BitLocker.
Good enough
>>107746852It's fairly good as a solution you don't need to use a password for since it relies on the TPM chip. A LUKS encrypted drive that requires a password to access might arguably be betterI'm sure people are going to chime in on backdoors and whatnot. I won't since I've taken my medication today
>>107746887What about against leet hackers, do they need both the key and your machines log in?
>>107746852its computer password zip is naughtybitlocker is business bsi try to avoid encrypted data and secure wifis
>>107746852use TPM+PINuse XTS-AES 256keep your recovery key safe
>>107747212>i try to avoid encrypted data and secure wifisSo my goal should be sending unencrypted data over insecure wifis. Got it.
>>107746887>I won't since I've taken my medication todayFriendly reminder to never take advice from someone that takes psychiatric medications on a daily basis.
>>107746852never trusted it
>>107747271why? have you even attempted to verify it does what it says it will do?
>>107746852no tranny, bitlocker is backdoored. Use luks with lvm
>>107747275how can she do that if she doesn't have the source code?
>>107746852Bitlocker is a disk encryption technology. What you're referring to seems to be TPM backed login which is something entirely different, even though they both may use the TPM. Regarding disk encryption, if using a TPM for securing the disk encryption keys, the disk encryption is only as secure as the TPM. There have been several documented attacks against TPMs, meaning using a strong passphrase instead can be more secure than a PIN+TPM.
>>107747293you dont need it to verify the outcome of turning on disk encryption
>>107747307sure whatever you say satya nutella
>>107747293>shekek
Veracrypt is probably better than Bitlocker because the whole TPM thing is pretty sus and is entirely dependent on the security of the Windows lock screen, which is written in java. I mean if someone manages to mash the right key combination to bypass the windows lock screen like they could with the linux lock screen then they're in.https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-screensaver/issues/354https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-screensaver/issues/462All forms of disk encryption greatly slow down your I/O speed. If you have a NVMe SSD then it will cut it down to SATA SSD speeds. So basically I doubt it's worth it to enable disk encryption. Police can just torture you to get the passwords and keys, anyway. And Jamal won't know how to bypass the lock screen even if you don't encrypt anything.
>>107747325just buy an opal 2.0 compliant nvme (like lterally all of them) and use the native hardware encryption
>>107747325microsoft could just bake in a veracrypt backdoor, install parabola
