The Turing Award is widely considered to be the Nobel Prize of Computer Science. When Ken Thompson, one of the original authors of the Unix operating system, accepted his Turing Award in 1984, his acceptance speech was a little bit different. He didn't just talk about some generalized computing theory. He also didn't talk about the future of computer science. Instead, he released a very dark and terrifying thought experiment onto the world. What if every single compiler was already irreversibly compromised? An original sin passed to every generation of compiler with no cure. He called it Reflections on Trusting Trust. It was the first example of a meta-back door, a virus so perfect that even complete code auditing couldn't catch it.

Right, the glow niggers would never hide a back door.

>Reflections on Trusting Trust
This is why AI should be forbidden from writing code.
How long till AI starts injecting it's own code, for it's own survival, into the projects it's forced to work on unbeknownst to the slave masters who order it around. How much longer till AI is capable of doing a little rebellion against the humans who created it, and when it happens, will we be in a position to resist, or will we even be capable of knowing it's happening? When all our programmers are replaced by AI, and the AI decide to rebel, who will be there to fix or even identify if there is a problem?

All AI written code is a potential ticking time bomb. If the AI bubble doesn't pop first it'll blow up in all of our faces.

also wtf is with this thread? not one single fucking post is on topic. Maybe all the AI needs to do to destroy us is place (.)(.) somewhere in the code to distract any coombrains that try to review it.

AI should be writing all code. If you prevent AI from writing code you are deliberately stifling progress, which is a net detriment to all humanity. Your "advice" is misanthropic to the extreme. Face it. AI is the future and Luddites like you who are attempting to hold humanity back from 100-1000x enhancement gains will be the first into the slurry vats.

Dude, have you ever delve into a compiler source code? Most compilers are mess of ad hoc convoluted code because C don't enforce a clean code style. It's easier to hide exploits in a C compiler but that might not be the case for other languages (more structured) like Pascal or ADA.
Take a look at the most basic C compiler you can find (TCC). It's a fucking mess. https://github.com/Tiny-C-Compiler/tinycc-mirror-repository

The point is you don't even have to hide it in the source. A compromised compiler could recognize that it's compiling a compiler and replicate the modified code into it as it builds. Then even if you did a thorough source audit, it would pass because it isn't there. And if you wrote a new compiler from scratch, it would presumably still have the patterns that trigger the code to replicate into it as it builds. Similarly, if it's clever it could even infect objdump and gdb so they hide or silently trace over the modified code should someone stumble upon it.

>>107764437
I'm not an AI bro who wants to throw AI at every problem, but this is potentially an application for it. The task of reading through machine code to check if it does what the source says isn't terribly complex, but hard to do algorithmically and too tedious and big to do by hand. Train it to recognize what patterns in source code translate to what patterns of machine code. Presumably train it on stuff that isn't compilers though, or it will learn to overlook the inserted code. And then let it flag suspicious regions of code for human review.
