which is better for C++ development?
>>
>>107762993
The one on the right, obviously. The one on the left is a glorified Notepad for meme languages
>>
vscode with clangd is great. only thing i cant do is search for symbols in external headers (although if i reference anything from them in code i can navigate to them). you can even debug by attaching to process with vscode on windows, makes working on cheats helpful
>>
the setup on vscode is unecessarily convoluted, you must use CMake which sucks ass otherwise you need to open vscode from the developer command prompt and configure tasks to build and run C/C++ projects (this method has never worked for me), you will have to install msvc toolchain (build tools) anyway so might as well just get the whole IDE, it has vastly better debugger, MS Build although it only works on windows is way simpler.

I like CLion for Linux, although it's paid. Codeblocks sucks ass, though
>>
>>107762993
actual VS, although VS 2026 is absolute dogshit and its first VS pajeetsoft is taking shit on, so last good VS is 2022
>>
>>107763191
VS 2026 feels faster than VS 2022

Neither, both are for zoomers.

for me going back to 2022 that had my full setup felt like upgrade and don't need to wait for menus to open and those menus have all settings they should have, meanwhile VS 2026 shit nu-menu is missing settings, had fucking automatic updates by default and toggle to disable that shit was hidden so that it needs you to go edit VS config files to get it visible again. Been using VS since 2012 and this was first time it went this way that older version is clearly superior product.

Emacs is for boomers.
CLion is the only correct choice

I just shoehorned the latest MSVC compiler into Visual Studio 2010. I had to update the SDK headers and the CRT headers and change some build flags but once it's set up, everything just werks and I get code analysis on 64-bits and avx2 support and a bunch of other shit that 2010's compiler didn't have.

visual studio >> clion >>>> eclipse = netbeans > anything else

CLion

VS is the best.
On VSCode Clangd intellisense is better but MS c++ debugger is better.
I've tried CLion but typing felt laggy to me and annoyed me so I stopped using it.
>>
>>107762993
none
>>
isn't CLion also built with electron? why would I use it over vscode+clangd+MS debugger?
>>
>>107767748
Clion is built with Java retard
>>
>>107763618
clion works like ass on 8gb ram man, still sticking to emacs
>>
>>107767789
it's even worse than I thought then
>>
>>107767790
true, Jetbrains IDEs are crazy resource hogs
>>
on windows visual studio is the best option for C++ development, problem is vscode is that it requires unnecessary extra setup
>>
i find graphical debuggers to be a god send. the proprietary microsoft one is nice. another option too is clion. vscode is worse emacs imo.
>>
clion
>>
>>107762993
If I have to choose between two piles of smoking shit, I rather not choose at all. Both are bad for C++ development, but vscode is at least a decent text editor, as far as electron slop goes.
>>
>>107762993
neovim & g++
anything else is for brainlets
>>
why do people still ask this, it's been proven that emacs is the best
>>
>>107762993
I used to like vscode but it just is such a piece of corpo trash these days. I just hate it. It's pushing my mind back to my suckless days

My style of usage of it has evolved so much. Using literally just the internal text search panels for finding, opening, checking, etc everything seems to be vastly faster and more reliable than autocomplete, intelliwhatever, ai, etc. I think an editor with tabs, good multi-cursor capabilities, and great full-text search capabilities alone would replace vscode for me (granted it doesn't have insane keybindings)
>>
I use VS every day at work and it's quite dogshit.
>>
>>107762993
I use neovim with clangd (I use Linux); I view IDEs as excessive and glad I don't use them anymore; I also make my terminal transparent so I can watch videos at the same time.
>>
>>107762993
This wasn't too bad
