If someone wants to take all the Keychron customers with a good custom board, I'm all for it. Good luck to them. But they're going to have to make it
1. actually full-size, not TKL
2. not retarded-looking, so not the Ticktype DP104 or the Chilkey ND104
3. $200ish or under, so not the Class100

Intro S100 was good. We need more of that.

What's a good fit for someone who simply wants a long lasting full keyboard with a volume knob for around $100 USD? My rubber dome is starting to have issues after 21 years of service. I've tried out the Cherry KC 200 MX and that felt alright, but otherwise I know nothing of switches.

I'd be very surprised if you got 20 years out of a Cherry MX keyboard. They're not designed for it.

Not aware of any that at $100 with a knob that I'd consider long-lasting. I'm a little suspicious of Keychron, especially with hotswap. I've only had mine for a year or so, and I don't use it daily, but it's fine so far.

>>107767845
Some of the best latency and software in a Hall effect imo. The V2 Lekker switches were decent for HE at the time when it launched, but there's better these days. Though being hot swappable you can always upgrade em to something like the Geon Raw HE, Gateron Jade Pro HE or w/e the current popular choice is for HE these days

I'm not deep in the keyboard rabbit hole, but Wooting has a modest community for modding. Build quality isn't top tier with an aluminum case or something, but still passable. It honestly just needs a refresh/update like some of their other boards have gotten - but given the limited good full sized layout HE options on the market atm, I still think it's a viable buy. I'm still waiting for my NyPhy to support analog controller emulation like my old Wooting

I was thinking maybe get a TKL or 80% HE
then settle for a cheap mechanical numpad and put it on the left
eg GMK26
>>
>>107767445
it’s already been said earlier but any keychron Q standard for $60. that’s the best value for under $100 right now imo. you’re getting a gasket mounted alu board with qmk that costed over $200 just a few years ago. it’s not as good as a custom board but you’d be spending literally hundreds more at that point. do a little research on switches and spend the last $40 on something other than the stock gaterons they come with. I recommend any HMX tactile, probably HMX bruise
>>
>>107768769
Maybe I'm just a retard, but I don't see any of the Keychron Q series with 100% full and a volume knob.

>>
>>107768943
These are basically clearance prices. I just checked and Q6 is marked back up and sold out. You could have probably gotten it if you asked a few weeks ago, sorry man.

I don’t know how flexible you are on layout but there is an 1800 with knob but only in an ugly ano blue for $90
https://www.keychron.com/collections/keychron-q-series-keyboard/products/keychron-q5-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard

also a 75%
https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-q1?variant=39898878705753

$90 for a full alu board is still a good deal, just not as good. I wouldn’t pay any more for a keychron tho

>>
>>107769065
You might just want to get a legacy brand like a filco or something, unfortunately I don’t think that’s gonna be hotswap so you’ll be stuck with whatever switches it comes it and it’ll just be injection molded, but that’s probably the best you’ll be able to do for your budget. I don’t really know a lot of good prebuilts.

Hello /mkg/, I've been using a cheap ass HP office slim (sk 2028?) for over 7 years now an its starting to give me issues (and the keys are very shinny and WASD are scratched/damaged from extensive use).
>Pic related (not my actual keyboard but its the same model)

This cheap piece of plastic gathers a bunch of key features I'd like in my next keyboard:
>100% keyboard
>low profile (really like this)
>key distribution is nice and packed

Downsides
>kinda loud as fuck

I cannot for the life of me get used to playing games on keyboards with those high profile / fat clickity clacks, but I'd love my keyboard to not make a shitload of noise as I tap away at it writing essays/works etc, or playing FPS, and the keyboard world is full of trash and overpriced stuff.

Can the keyboard wizards of /mkg/ help? I know it's ridiculous to ask Mechanical Keyboard General for non-mechanical keyboard advice but I can't think of any other place to ask and I don't use reddit, and most of my friends either have loud ass keyboards or some bizarre 60% thing where they then can't perform misc actions on Arma3

>>107775474
Depends. Do you like the keyboard anyway? How often do you use the arrow keys? How much does that thing cost? If there's a group of keys you never use, maybe you could rebind those to be your arrow keys. I turned a row of useless keys into a Vim-style arrow key layout because I otherwise liked my keyboard too much.

Gateron Jupiter Red, Brown and Banana.

>>
>>107778019
>bump after actuation
huh?
>>
>>107778019
MX Clears actually have the bump closer to actuation and I think part of the tactile event might happen during the actuation. Gateron Jupiter Reds are linears and the Browns and Bananas are all tactile bumps at the very top of the press instead of partway, so they're technically "before" but that kind of tactility feels a good bit different compared to Browns or Clears, or things like clickbar or click leaf switches.
Personally I'm not much of a fan, they kinda feel like clunky linears or weaker rubber domes to me but other people go feral over that style of tactility.

In the future if you ever feel like trying other switches see if they have force curves, preferably done by third parties that look something like this. I guess manufacturer curves are good enough if all you care about it seeing how far down the tactile event is during the key press, at least from memory, but if you care about specific weightings do not trust manufacturer force curves at all.
Though it's a good bet that if it's a newer tactile switch it's the "tactile at the top/front loaded tactile" and whatever else people call them. Ones that emulate Clears will sometimes say "Clear/Ergo Clear tactility" instead in their descriptions or specs.

True, some people boast about high wpm and it's often all lowercase words with no punctuation. Typing at least medium length quotes and needing accuracy in the test is a far more comprehensive metric for giving legitimacy to someone's wpm.
It's more impressive to type a sustained 110wpm for two paragraphs than 180wpm for 10 lowercase words.

Hey /g/uise. So I've been using my Keychron K10 for almost 5 years now and even though before just changing the switches was enough, I feel like it's about to die.
I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard which has the same build quality and feel.
I spend most of my time writing and coding, but I also do some light gaming (mainly DOTA).
I also use MX Cherry blue, because I love the feel and my wrists/hands are heavy so I tend to type with a lot of strength. I honestly love how it feels but I might enjoy something slightly softer.

Any help?

Just message support to buy a new compatible PCB.

>I feel like it's about to die.
I believe you, but why? 5 years is pathetic
>>
>>107785941
I don't mind buying an entire new keyboard desu and I also want to test out other brands. Also, I'm not from the US and shipping is expensive, so might as well get a full keyboard.
>>107785976
No idea, random ghosting even after replacing switches, randomly will change the Ctr + key command which is very annoying when I'm working.
I lived in the woods for a few years where there would be tons of dust and also drastic changes between tons of humidity and dryness, so maybe since my keyboard was more exposed than the rest of my hardware it was the first thing to go
>>
>>107786082
This is why I hesitate to recommend Keychron. I just have a bad feeling about their PCBs. You hear things.

I suspect that Filco/Leopold/etc. are more reliable boards long-term, but the proprietary firmware is a problem. On a full-size maybe that doesn't matter as much, but once you get used to being able to make your own function layers etc. it's hard to go back.

Honestly I just don't know who's even trying to make long-lasting keyboards right now, it feels like the influencer sphere doesn't care about that at all and consumers take their cues from the influencers. I'd like to see someone make their shtick inspecting and quality-testing keyboard PCBs. I know there are some PCB experts in "the keyboard community" but I'm not a member of all those discords/etc. to know what they talk about.

If anyone knows someone who does this kind of content, let me know. There'd be a bit of a knowledge requirement to get into doing that, but on the other hand a keyboard is a relatively simple electronic device, so I'm sure some amateur with enough interest could do it.

Redpill me on why travel sucks below 3.8mm. Why 3.8 and not full travel at 4.0?
>>
>>107788131
a lot of switches stop at 3.8. I don't know, if it's like 3.5 or something it just feels too short. I just wouldn't want less than 3.8 worth of travel

NTA but if anyone want to buy mx clear ergo you can just buy mx purple now, you need to trim the stems before using them btw
>>
>>107764101
-pretty good to customise
-best for mechanical keys and typing
-keychron HE stuff is not worth it if you are gaymin (TMR is already beating HE if you are looking for gaymin focused)
-shit software
-shit wake up from standby that makes them look flat/dead then you waste your time charging them when they dont need
- good value for money
>>
>>107789740
You don't "need" to unless you're using ABS caps, as they'll almost certainly crack or warp ABS keycaps due to the tiny bumps on the stems. PBT keycaps are mostly fine in that regard, especially higher purity PBT sets, but I trimmed mine anyway since it was annoying having to put in a bit of physical effort to take keycaps off of dozens of switches which normally would take a few minutes at most.

I have enough of the following switches to do a full size keyboard, all currently sitting unused:

Gateron Longjing Tea
Gateron Lanes
Gateron Khonsu
Gateron Milky Green
Gateron Jupiter Brown
Cherry MX Brown HG (x2)
Cherry MX Red HG
Kailh Box Jade
Durock Light Tactile
JWick Taro
Outemu Silent Lime

And I have enough to do a 65% of any of these:
WS Aurora Clear
WS Aurora Mizu
JWK Mauve
Durock Korbs by Tiny
Tecsee Sunny Side Up

I have the following keycap sets sitting unused:
NicePBT R-Beige
Shenpo 2048 L9
Shenpo 2048 Black-on-black
Swagkeys Dolch
Swagkeys La Vie en Rose
Hammerworks CRP ANSI-US

I have like 8 sets of stabs sitting unused and plenty of lube.

What keyboard should I buy to make use of some of this garbage?

I don't like how squared-up it is. PC is tempting though. I think if I wanted a TKL I'd have gone for the Hippo polycarbonate GB that just ended or maybe the Linworks PC Dolphin that's currently being sold on mechmarket, although both of those are considerably more expensive

absolutely, do not get a Bluetooth device made by this company. I have had two and I smashed them both and the keys went flying everywhere. holy fucking God do not do it. get one with a USB cable
>>
>>107764481
why is it magnetic? what does that mean? which part of the magnets
>>
>>107791658
It's the most functionally appealing TKL in that price range, clean top mount design instead of more gaskets.

I'm looking for a programmable numpad that I can have at the left side of my keyboard so I can have macros for 3D modelling software. Some keybinds are extremely schizophrenic and I would love to just have a numpad on my left side where I can just press different keys to access the functions I want. Any recommendations?

Is this what the console wars were like? Were Xbox and Playstation fans just nonstop exchanging images of men kissing, gay porn etc. saying "this is you"? If so I understand why they shut it down
>>
>>107797591
No, consolewars was just a bunch of nerds telling others to kill themselves, Nintendo and Sony fans fighting over if OoT or FFVII were the best games of all time and everyone telling Xbox fans to go back to play their babby's first FPS.
This retarded tranny shit is fairly new.
>>
>>107797591
No, consolewars were actually kinda funny at first and how we got legendary shit like those Chad Warden videos.
This near-avatarfagging spam is just a tranny% loser that got bootyblasted over a few anons' banter. Simply shitting on him for larping as a productive user because he thinks inputting a fighting game combo with gayers (layers) to get a shitty version of a numpad on his alpha keys is somehow "better" than simply having a dedicated numpad. It made him have this epic meltdown that's lasted months now after slinging every cope you could think of to justify shitty gimped layouts.
Very sad, actually. I think he wants to become the next site celeb and be given a name so we can refer to him as "_____fag" or "_____schizo", but I don't think he deserves the effort.

've been using a shitty membrane keyboard for years and wanted to treat myself to something a little nicer, namely a black keyboard that would have per key assignable RGB (or at least multiple zones), and was either bluetooth/wireless (while still being 100%, 98%, or 96% sized) and/or had USB passthrough ports (without requiring an extra second USB plug to use the passthrough), ideally both, tho wireless/bluetooth is more important then USB passthrough

In the end I pretty much narrowed my choices (Though as someone not into keyboards I'm sure there's options I missed) down to the Keychron K10 QMK V2 (which is black, already has shine through north facing keycaps, and is wireless), and the black versions of the Royal Kludge RK96 and F99, if I bought black shine through keycaps to replace their existing keycaps (both of which have a black body, are wireless, and have USB passthrough)

However, from what I can tell toying around with it, the RK96 and I assume the F99 don't seem to have a way to save custom RGB assignments to onboard memory, and the moment you unplug the keyboard to use it in wireless/bluetooth mode, it reverts to default lighting presets. The Keychron doesn't have that issue, but the keys feel padded or mushy in a way I don't like (relative to the RK keyboards: I've tried a Linear Viridian Switch and a Linear Cream switch on the those, which feel fine; the Keychron has their Red Keychron Super Switch), and both keyboards also don't seem to have a way to change how long the RGB stays on for before shutting off due to inactivity.

Does anybody have suggestions for other 96%-100% black keyboards with north facing RGB that don't have that issue with saving RGB assignments when used wirelessly, don't feel mushy, are wireless, ideally have adjustable RGB activity timings, etc?

Alternatively, would putting a different set of switches in the Keychron make it feel less mushy, or is that a chasis thing rather then a switch thing?
>>
>>107799052
Meant to include this but I ran out of space:

I don't into keyboards and everything I know about them/Mechanical switches is just whatever I learned while doing research on trying to find a keyboard for this, so excuse me being a dumbass and likely missing obvious options
>>
>>107799015
What the fuck? Learn to read, retard. I said I'm a sissy faggot, that's far away from HSTS
