What's the best GIMP version? I know it's not anything recent as everything is fundamentally broken and buggy
>>
3.0 is pretty good though. The only thing I really dislike is that all old plugins no longer work.
>>
I only use gimp to resize images.
>>
>>107769495
You can do that with imagemagick in a fraction of the time
>>
>>107769495
Resizing on older versions of GIMP retains 10x more sharpness while on new ones you get gigablurmaxxing. Very easy to notice with text especially. The FOSSchimps did something to the code.

Yeah, they removed Lanczos in 2012 because some retard thought his blurry algorithms were better. It's been so long that all the user forums were people opposed the change are dead now. Easily one of the most stupid decisions they ever made, when I'm editing something and I need to downscale some image, I end up opening Krita because Gimp is absolutely garbage for that.

Krita

you can choose which interpolation style to use when rescaling

Doesn't make much of a difference since they are all shit but this is with Cubic(and whatever Krita uses, still shit)

Actually now that I think about it, the NoHalo and LoHalo don't look half as bad as 3.0 Cubic, but I still prefer the original 2.8 Cubic by a long shot over blurry shit.

No idea why your Krita defaulted to nearest neighbor, but you can select Lanczos, which is sharp as fuck compared to Gimp's retardation.

gimpshop with the virus
>>
>>107769420
Any version before 3.0 lacks ample non-destructive editing features so definitely not those.
>>
>>107772096
That's not a thing

Of course it is. Have you never wanted to modify a filter or color adjustment after applying it?

do you think she actually uses it for anything other than resizing?

3.0.4 is best because you can just click the x over and over to remove layer effects. 3.0.6 can't do that. You have to keep repositioning the cursor over the red X to remove them.

Also these plugins are really good for a fan of traditional filters and just artistic workflows in general
https://github.com/LinuxBeaver/LinuxBeaver/releases

plugins go in
~/.local/share/gegl-0.4/plug-ins

Go with the top plugins for Windows or Linux. That way you only have 50 of them instead of a overwhelming 140.

If all you need is image resizing GIMP is not for you. Caja file manager has plugins that can resize images and image magic can automate that,.

>>107769485
My plugins work on both GIMP 2.10 and GIMP 3 because they aren't part of GIMP's script fu or python. They belong to GEGL

Also I do have AI generated plugins for GIMP but they are entirely isolated from the non-AI ones so people who dislike AI don't use them by mistake.

>>107773563
yo beaver you know any methods to transform without introducing additive artifacting? sometimes I'll scale something, decide to do it again but it gets progressively blurrier.
>>
>>107769575
>Lanczos
That's why I love you autists, sperging out about interpolation algorithms and how enshittification has reached FOSS
>>
>>107773563
It took me so long to find where tf the proper text outline was, why is it hidden in those extensions and not integrated in the program?

I just want Photoshop's Layer Effects man.
>>
>>107769420
Version 3 and up introduced non-destructive editing, so it's the best so far
>>
Any way to have GIMP start up faster? I need to wait like a minute every time I first open it up.
>>

You mean least awful

It does ship with GIMP. its called "style text"

filters>generic>style text
