I"m sorry but this is just fucking weird?
What's the point in calling it all copilot? How do I differentiate this from the edge one and from the one you access via website?
Why the fuck is Microsoft being so fucking deranged? I used to think the ballsmurr era was the worst era but this is something else.

These things are just weird man.
Major corporations could have saved millions if not billions in licensing fees over the years had they used FOSS instead of MS software.
It's not even particularly better anymore at this point, except for maybe Excel and its complex mathematical functionalities.

Maybe it's just a case of companies feeling embarrassed if word gets out that they're using free software rather than brand shit.
Maybe using LibreOffice over MSoffice is to them what using an Android rather than an iPhone is to shallow girls. Maybe using FOSS gives investors the ick or something.

There's still a huge stigma on open source stuff, maybe they think it being free means it can't be good.
A place I worked at got in trouble for pirating windows, had to pay a huge fine and buy all licenses for every computer we had, with office and all that crap. But they still didn't even consider an alternative. 90% of what we did there would work on linux, there was one program for drawing schematics they used that I'm not sure would have a linux version, we'd have to run it with wine at worst.
>>

At least those had seperate terms. "messenger" is a messaging program.
Them just calling everything copilot is fucking confusing.
>>
>>107770161
It's funny how Microsoft just coasts by on being the "default." Can't have Mac OS on a normal computer so they're not even a real competitor. Can't have Linux because normies don't know how to install it. It took years of Google making TV ads and banners on youtube shilling Chrome for people to figure out how to switch off Internet Explorer. And even then most people installed it by accident when installing something else that came bundled with it and it made itself the default browser.

With Windows rapidly becoming an "Agentic" SaaS vibe-coded holocaust, and MacOS being limited to custom silicon, the only options we have left are frankensteins from the server world (Linux and BSD), or so esoteric that 99% of people have no idea they exist (Haiku, React, Icaros, Solaris forks, and all the niche Amiga-ish OSes).

Corpo software has actual support teams. No, piddly little forums full of "WORKS ON MY MACHINE DAVE 1964" isn't support. Corporations need to be able to open tickets with actual support teams when there are business-impacting issues with software they use. You'll never see an actual corporation using libreoffice.

It's not like that. They renamed that retarded Office app for phones, not whole suit. In that app you find your word doc and they it opens it word.

so you can make a nice graph for the board that shows how you have gained a billion more copilot(tm) users, that also pay for the subscription, and pretend in front of everyone that ai is now becoming profitable. (all that, while everyone knows it's a lie, but still go along with it, because it's what they want to hear and think that the thing will materialize into the reality in just two more years)

>>107773921

this can't be simply replaced by "some other software"
every single office person uses Excel daily, it is the most important MS product after windows
if we want to replace it it must be a 1:1 drop in replacement and must just work, we can not half-ass this one
>>
>>107773921
>Word, Powerpoint
>LaTeX
LaTeX is pretty bad if you're going to be honest, which you should be. The purpose of Word and Powerpoint is that you can see what you're doing as you do it. LaTeX is a typesetting system, it's really hard to use, it's extremely limited in what it can do, and you can't see what you're doing until you compile.

I worked in 2024, for Microshit.
Well not directly since they do like outsource this shit, to keep costs down, at this point even certain key elements of development are outsourced and kept up by NDA's etc.

I took the job because I needed money, and was desperate. Worked only for 6months they shut whole division down, but luckily found something better. Looking at it retropspect AI push was fucking high, we were pushed to use copilot and other tools in every area. As someone responsible for looking over advocates and responsible for some client relations and relaying issues up MS foodchain, I can tell you, consumer bugs were mostly ignored, even corporate bugs such as onedrive that were causing issues such as bug where onedrive might delete everything on a server persisted. Looking at internal development memos it was all fucking Copilot this copilot that, and Basics, man they just got worse and didn't work.
Then they basically closed whole department, and created new one in India or Greece I think.
Probably with even less humans.
At this point Windows OS is just a mess and Key elements that still work are legacy, all new shit, barely works and is buggy as hell.
Sooner EU institutions, and people move away from this "burning platform" quoting Stephen Flop (that Microsoft shill Nokia CEO), the better.

>>
>>107780407
I don't think anyone has Access to full Microsoft source code. It's all comparmentalized and while UI and some other elements are outsourced, Microsoft keeps very close eye on NT Kernel, at least one that hasn't been leaked... It's one of The most closed kept secret. Even when "partners" get to see it it's only part of it, never full.
Hence Microsoft source code can never leak in full.
This is best and closest we got.

https://linuxreviews.org/42.9_GB_Of_Microsoft_Source_Code_Leaked:_Historicans_Can_Now_Study_The_Source_Code_For_MS-Dos_3.3_To_Windows_XP

>Microsoft keeps very close eye on NT Kernel, at least one that hasn't been leaked... It's one of The most closed kept secret.
Yeah, their super secret good for nothing kernel. Imagine if its source was leaked and what secret knowledge we would obtain!
We would finally discover what this shitty microkernel does because it doesn't work with devices (that's HAL job), it doesn't handle drivers and filesystems (that are separate drivers). Maybe we will discover why does it have shitty I/O and memory management compared to Linux but that's no secret: on the one hand you have Meta, Google and Intel engineers working with open code base and actively improving network and memory stacks while on the other hand you have literally who sitting behind closed door at some random M$ office trying to figure out how desktop PC work lol. And the result of his hard work is that Microsoft deployed its entire Azure infrastructure on Linux.
