It only gets worse...

server DRAM requires $500+ motherboards, not meant for the average consumer
>>
AGI is not worth this.
>>
Hopefully the software developer faggits would finally optimise their shit because RAM is unaffordable.

Mainstream software, no. Will have to use old or obscure software, including games. Mainstream software is targeted for people who will actually pay, that means people who can afford $4000 PCs.
>>
>>107772074
Good for them, give it a couple years and they'll have so much backstock from people not ordering any at these retarded prices they'll drop back to thr prices they were at or even lower. This exact thing already happened in 2018
>>
>>107772104
>motherboards
Neither SK Hynix nor Samsung produces motherboards, which means the price hike will only affect DRAMs.
>>
>>107772107
If we actually got AGI out of it, it would be worth a lot more, but we won't anyways.
>>
>>107772148
Are you retarded by any chance?
>>
has SRAM become any cheaper than DRAM?
>>
>>107772074
lol man it feels good to have but a future proof rig in 2024 with 128gb DDR5 5600 (OC’d to 6000) and an RTX4090 for $1100.
My only mistake was buying a 14900K but it’s still running with no crashes.

Why did you dumb niggas wait?
>>
>>107772127
Pls don't. someone will have to save us from this.

This is why you buy whatever hardware you need right the fuck now.
In a year or two things are going to be so much worse, that a $1200 set of 64GB RAM and a $5000 5090 is going to look downright affordable.
>>
>>107772177
I should've bought shit in 2023. Fuck man.
>>
>>107772158
>Are you retarded by any chance?
Yeah surely you are. The price hike is coming from the DRAM manufacturers whose main business in focused on making silicon dies, not some itty bitty server components.

No, there is no way AGI created by jeets and jews will end with anything but human extinction.
Human extinction has a very low traditional market value.
>>
>>107772121
No, this is another item to help push people to the cloud that can only play PC games or some shit through under powered laptops via a subscription, assuming you do not have to pay a subscription for the under powered laptop as well.
>>
>>107772107
>>107772107
AGI will be achieved through smart system design, not by throwing endless resources to LLMs.
I bet we already have the hardware necessary for AGI, perhaps even at consumer level hardware.
>>
why can't they just fleece google and facebook, they've got plenty of cash to burn, why do they gotta fleece us too
>>
>>107772104
Consumer motherboards are exactly that much too.
Want to buy something with state of the art VRMs for gaming? Not cheap.
>>
>>107772074
I remember when people said Intel would never fall. RAM prices and GPU prices are going to go down eventually. They will not and cannot go up indefinitely. NOTHING goes up indefinitely.

Yea, bro. GPU prices will go back to normal after the pandemic and the bitcoin craze.
Any day now...
>>
>>107773696
GPU prices did go down after the Bitcoin craze was over, it's just Nvidia got on on another bubble.

IN THE BUBBLE WE TRUST -Jensen Huang
>>
>>107773684
Yeah eventually they will go down. This eventually is forecasted to be a long time though, like 5 years. Doesn't matter if it stops eventually if you fucking die in the meantime
>>
>>107773814
It will go down within this decade for sure
>>
>>107773623

Anon, the 9800X3D draws like 150W. I used to push more than that even with a trash-tier AM3-era board and it handled it just fine.

Taking out most of the service economy with it. China laughing its ass off. USA gets hit with a massive tab that it cannot realistically paid off. This is all compounded with a laundry list of entitlements.
>>
>>107772074
I really don't get what the fuck is happening.
>we can't do a better model? we will throw all the hardware of the world at it and produce an unfeasable amounts of electricity because we need it to run
>almost every company like nvidia is jumping on this (dying!) train, fucking themselves up when OpenAI and related will pay the price for their inability to make a better model
Is it simply rich people fucking with the poor until they can? Is it all a masquerade for killing home computing?
>>
>>107772074
It's a Free Market. If you don't like it then take a Risk and start a Business. Make memory for cheaper and see how that works out for you and your shareholders.
>>
>>107774790
>2007
shut the fuck up bitch. of course they go up, inflation is built into our monetary system. they've been going up much more than inflation and even much more than proportional increases in manufacturing costs because of extreme nvidia jewery
>>
>>107776188
>If you don't like it then take a Risk and start a Business.
Sure, I'll just take out a multi-billion dollar loan to set up DRAM production.
>>
>>107776050
Yeah honestly I want RAM manufactures to jack their prices so high that the AI cartel gets outpriced.
>>
>>107776237

>>
>>107776188
>shareholders
and there lies the problem. only focussed on maximizing profit at the cost of everything.

the very same reason this ai bubble took off. generating fake gdp > accelerating the money printer > increasing inflation > removing purchasing power from peope > more and more become dependent on government&co.

while using the AI to even worsen the surveillance and mine the human mind, people who honestly believe that AI nets something positive need a reality check.

a computer cannot have conciousness to be able to understand anything
it follows a rule set
you will never see any fucking AGI in your entire life since you cannot put a soul into a computer
>>
>>107773623
>state of the art VRMs
its a MEEEEEME, i have the worst motherboard possible (chepest) and then upgraded to 9950x3D and i though i will buy the newest motherboard with lastest chipset for it... but the fact is it just works great even on my cheap shit motherboard, even tuned the PBO2 hard and it all just works, ram overclocked from 6000mhz to 6400mhz with same timings.. it all just works, it seems like the expensive motherboards are scam, it cant run any way better than it is running now for me
>>
>>107782208
also a computer doesn't know what is true or not so AGI will never happen
>>
>>107773684
Say that to housing lmao. It used to be cheaper than food not that long ago and is now 50-70% of most people's income.
>>
>>107777680
you propped up the economy when it needed you the most
you now deserve your reward. Godspeed anon
>>
>>107782208
>>107782427
I actually think there might be ways to do that, but you won't be able to do so through mere tech. Tech can only create the material vessel.

is there 0 competition in the RAM production industry? It's Samsung, Hynix and Micron right? Why doesn't one just make more and sell a fuckload of units?

>>
>>107772104
I find funny that, what could possibly pop the bubble was not OpenAI earnings but the dumb decision of buying all ram with money they don't have and fucking everyone else in the process. Mark my words, this dumb decision will make the bubble pop eventually

>>
>>107772121
lol. lmao even.
>>
>>107785334

Given the speed at which prices have spiked I wonder if we see new players enter the RAM market. That’d take years though. This seems to be like the toilet paper craze.
>>
>>107772074
Wait, so you're telling me server DRAM sticks were still cheap second hand?
>>107772104
Absolute fucking bullshit, RDIMM worked on regular desktop computers. It's just one extra channel.
>>
>>107787283
Wrong, RIMMs cannot be used on memory controllers tuned for UDIMMs and vice versa. You are confusing ECC with registered/buffered memory.
You can use ECC UDIMMs on a memory controller/motherboard that does not support ECC. It will just operate like a normal non-ECC unit. You also put non-ECC memory into ECC capable memory controller/motherboard will not be able to use ECC mode.
>>
>>107772074
Just first everybody in those companies and hire the raspberry pi fabricators.

Sit down with them, fund them well and get something working. The prices will drop and you will get rid of the leeches.

Get a few of the old geniuses from the other company to help them. You have to put up with them, they will get you results but it will be a little slow at first, pay to remove the barriers which make them slow, it will save you alot of money.
>>
Why am I helping corpos for free anonymously?

Their job was to hire me at the price I am worth. Now look at them. Parasitic. Sucking up resources they don't deserve. Completely pathetic.
>>
It will be ok, she will handle everything
>>
>>107772074
server means ECC
they are different kits
>>
>>107772121
Unfortunately, no. Not many software devs even consider optimization or making things efficient unless a big enough client / consumer complains.

I work for a relatively big tech company and my computer struggles to run the product I work on. The older developers always tell me "get a better machine" or "get a mac next time"
>>
>>107776237
Nobody claimed the current way of implementing lithography is necessarily efficient, far from it. It's just the path we took but there are certainly much better ones overall which are also magnitudes cheaper
>>
>>107772177
>This is why you buy whatever hardware you need right the fuck now.
No. The current hardware has been sabotaged to break in about a year. Buying now is retarded.
Just buy old stuff from the used market.
>>
>it requires near 0 resources
This nigga doesn't eat
>>
>>107785334
The problem is setting up fabrication. It takes awhile and by then the bubble might be dead once you're ready to start churning shit out.
Then on top of that you have certain actors hoarding the actual material needed to make these chips.
>>
>>107776165
Nobody even cares about making a better model anymore. Say "AGI in 2 weeks", attract investors. Re-train a model for specific tests, show improvement in those specific tests, increase version number - attract investors. The real aim now is to shove what they already have into everything imaginable.
>>
I'm safe, bought ram months before
>>
>>107782291
It's entirely based on wattage, maybe for AMD it's a meme but if you're running a high end shittel you better have good VRMs or you will literally be hard capped out of max performance
>>
>>107772121
You poor fags keep saying this. They wont. You are priced out of new games forever! HA HA HA!
