lack of true nvidia support on linux is actually the worst thing about linux
>>
>>107780574
That's Nvidia's fault, not GNU/Linux's.
>>
>>107780574
Does it really matter for you? Not like the performance hit matters with a 1030, you're not playing anything other than pixel art games that can run on Intel integrated graphics from 10 years ago.

Also, if you know this, it's really easy to just buy an AMD GPU.

Truth
>>
>>107780574
Rumor has it that it's actually coming this year.
>>
At least it's work in some instances. Lack of software is way worse.
>>107780597
It doesn't matter whose fault it is.
>>
>>107780574
I have 3 nvidia gpu's just sitting around doing nothing. I game on iGPU now.
>RTX A2000 ampere sff
>RTX 2060
>GTX 1050ti
I don't even have a standard atx pc to put them into anymore, I took the miniPC pill. Kek
I don't sell them purely out of fear that if I ever want to play demanding games again I won't be able to buy one for a reasonable price.
>>
>>107780597
You sound like Microdick when they released stats during Vista’s time showing NVIDIA was responsible for 30% of BSODs.
The end user doesn’t care. Fix the shit or fuck off.

Well, don’t use Nvidia, they overcharge and they suck. Nvidia is all about locking market with their software and then pulling the rug (CUDA, PhysX, etc).

Works just fine on my machine

No, lack of true Linux support on Nvidia is actually the worst thing about Nvidia. You are retarded to use Nvidia when you literally see why Nvidia is shit and nothing works on it.
>>
>>107780968
>You don't understand, I NEED THE GREEN BOX, and it's your responsibility to reverse engineer the chip inside it!
>>107781260
On Linux, both use open-source drivers and have comparable performance. Intel is slightly better for stuff like video encoding and AI shit. On Windows, AMD wins by virtue of having much more mature drivers.
>>
I use Nvidia on Linux, but I have an AMD CPU with integrated graphics for most stuff.
Works jsut fine.

Yes because nvidia are niggers.

You fix it buy not buying from companies hostile to FOSS like nvidia.

Yeah and how the fuck do you think people would be able to do that? Do you think reverse engineering graphics cards is something you do in a weekend?
>>
Am I really the only one who never had problems with nvidia on Linux? I have a 1080ti and triple monitor setup and everything just works
>>
>>107780574
>>107781580
This. Ever notice how MacOS barely works on non-Apple hardware? This is because Apple develops MacOS specifically for Apple hardware. This should be basic tech literacy. If you want your computer to work make sure the hardware you're buying works well with the software you're using.
>>
>>107781661
Probably, yes. There are many problems with nvidia drivers including the latest one available for a 1080 ti. It's not as bad as the most recent driver though.
>>
>>107781661
nah same here on a 3060
>>
>>107781661
its not that nvidia cards *dont work*. they work perfectly fine, its just that the drivers are sub-optimal compared to AMD, and are much more inconsistent as a result
>>
>Still no decent RTSS or Special K equivalent on Linux
And no, fucking Mango HUD is not good enough.
>>
>>107780574
I can play civ5, Minecraft, terraria, world of tanks, war thunder, and lol on Ubuntu

cope
>>
What's wrong with Nvidia GPU support ? I game on a GTX 1660 it's okay.
>>
>>107781661
The "major" issue with Nvidia on Linux is the drivers are limited to a few specific kernel versions.
Linux "hobbyists" want to run any arbitrary kernels but this is an issue if an Nvidia driver have bugs or incompatibles with that kernel.
The reality is if you are using a mainstream distro that supports Nvidia drivers, they have a handful of driver+kernel combos that are tested and the vast majority of users won't see much issue with whatever the distro hands them.
I was using Nvidia with Linux back in 2012-2013 which few gripes. If anything opengl stuff like Minecraft was more stable under Linux than Windows.

Most ML stuff has been with Nvidia+Linux
>>
>>107780574
Actually the worst thing about linux is you need to tinker all the fucking time.
You debloat windows enterprise once (takes 5 mins) and you're set for life
>>
>>107780613
>pixel art games that can run on Intel integrated graphics from 10 years ago
You'd be surprised. Especially if it's written in Godot. A lot of these have several layers of post-processing effects you can't turn off and are much heavier than warranted. But game programmers aren't different than normal programmers and only test on their monster workstations with 2x 5090s so they say oh these effects are free
>>
>>107783091
You can run Nvidia driver on literally any kernel you have the headers for with dkms.
>>
>>107780574
>>107780968
Don't worry, nvidia is exiting the consoomer market so you won't have to worry about GPU compatibility much longer. You will own nothing.
>>
>>107783156
It's always been the case.
It's a matter of what is reliable with the least amount of issues. Hence why distros have specific versions they have personally tested.
Nothing stopping you from running the latest kernel with the latest driver but expect problems.
>>
>>107780574
Not really, the worst thing about Linux is all the desktop environments suck
>>
>>107783156
Nope
>>
>>107782915
You're on decade old hardware so yeah it should work by now.
>>
>>107781009
No it doesn't. You don't have a magic PC that's avoiding the huge performance hit in DX12 games versus Windows. You don't have a magic PC that's magically restored the missing features versus the Windows driver, such as voltage control. You're just an uncritical chump who does nothing of note with their system and so doesn't notice things that are broken. Nvidia is "fine" on Linux if you're a tranny who only uses it to rice their desktop and groom kids on Discord.
>>
>>107783342
i think you can "undervolt" by lowering the power limit while boosting clocks
>>
>>107783342
DX12 games often perform better when translated to Vulkan...
>>
>>107780968
How about companies stop being so anti consumer, huh? Maybe if people started raping those CEOs and their nigger investors some positive change would happen for once.
>>
>>107781293
AMDalits spout this nonsense when NVIDIA has objectively the ebst hardware AND with DLSS4.5 your 9070XT is rendered obsolete. Enjoy your 100$ cheaper paperweight lmao
>>
>>107785406
what a fucking brown way to speak
>>
>>107780574
works for me, don't know what additional support you need
>>
>>107780574
Maybe if Nvidia wasn't a greedy piece of shit ruining PC building and the very market that built them up in the first place all to shill the AI bubble.
A company with dubious morals like that doesn't support open source drivers.
>>
>>107780574
>lack of true nvidia support on linux is actually the worst thing about linux
What do you mean? Nvidia optimizes for Linux first when it comes to CUDA.
Nearly all LLMs are trained on Linux servers.
>>
novideo werks fine on loonix. it's just game performance that can be ass.

>freetards explode
Doesn't matter, OPs point stands.
>>
>>107782915
Fucking bugs everywhere. It wouldn't be so bad if they fixed bugs in a timely manner, but if you find a bug with nvidia driver you can bet your ass that it will be at least 6 months before it's fixed unless it's completely ridiculous and breaks everything.

They do fix it faster if it's really bad... but it has to be really really bad.
>>
>>107789261
What does that have to do with what either of us said?
>>
>>107780574
It just works though?
What the fuck do you want? the shit windows has? nvidia app? retard
>>
>>107780574
Nvidia literally said they don't care about consumer hardware anymore so why does it matter.
>>
Doesn't the steam deck run Linux and ship Nvidia cards?
>>
>>107793970
No?
But even if it did valve wouldn't let it rot like that.

Works on my machine.
>>
>>107781661
It's not issues like the cards won't work. It just means you won't get optimization improvements.
>>
>>107793970
It's AMD like every other console
>>
>>107783342
>tinkertranny accusing others of being trannies
Who gives a fuck about voltage control? Do you think these cards don't come off the lines already tuned thanks to millions (perhaps billions) of dollars worth of R&D?
>>
>>107781661
Same with my 5070 and my old 3070ti, got 0 issues.
>>
>>107781661
Never had any issues, but the 30% performance drop over Windows and all the fucking tweaks needed to get games running made me go back to Windows and swear off Linux forever.
Nvidia worked fine on Linux, but it works phenomenally on Windows.
>>
>>107793999
>Maybe join team red, faggots.
I would if;
>FSR 3 didn't look worse than even the first iteration of DLSS
>FSR had anything adjecent to DLAA
>AMD didn't abandon FSR 4 and let random modders make injectors for it
>9070XT didn't offer worse performance on 1440p than a fucking 5060ti even on GNU/+Linux simply because things are developed and cattered towards nVidia
>AMD actually cared about their GPUs and supported them
>inb4 just play native
Most modern games don't offer native but TAA or forced FSR/DLSS, and in that case DLSS/DLAA always wins, simply because neither AMD nor the developers care about AMD.
Now I know you will write something like;
>Imagine still playing video games
Yeah imagine actually doing something on your PC instead of just browsing /g/ and scrolling reels while you pretend that you actually code and are more productive than playing video games.
>>
>>107782410
You can't play lol and know it
>>
>>107794615
Have you considered getting an actual hobby instead of vidya
>>

how about you fuck yourself with a rake, retard.
>>
>>107794716
>AMD actually cared about their GPUs and supported them
I wish nvidia did this. On Windows I could live with Nvidia, on Linux not so much. I hope their current Windows drivers are at least better than their Linux drivers.
>>
>>107794716
>FSR 3 didn't look worse than even the first iteration of DLSS
FSR and DLSS are both conceptually cancerous. I don't play any game that uses them.
>>
>>107780574
imaginary nvidia support works just fine.
>>
>>107780574
The H100 works just great with Linux.
>>
>>107781661
no, i honestly dont understand how it's all so shit and broken for some people, i've used linux with a 2070, a 3070, and a 970, i've never ran into the fabled driver issues that people say that they have constantly
