Is there a closed back better than FT1 at the price?
I've had a warranty issued for the ATH-M40x because the right side of the headphones stopped working within a year time. I got my moneyse back but now need a new pair of headphones. I liked the m40x but was just wondering if there was a better buy at this point or should I stick to the same since I liked it. My budget is still around 100€. I just want something durable most of all. What do I do with it? Videogames and some music, nothing flac just spotify streaming, although im a rym fag I think its pointless for me to buy ultra high end headphones (also because no budget but it would still be a waste). I want to also add that I got a ixo22 steinberg audio interface and want to utilize this advantage and not plug in some shitty headphones. pls no bluetooth

>>107788511Edifier W820NB Plus. It has a decent FR for Bluetooth headpos at this price point.
>>107792811There isn't. But FT1 has a terrible FR variation based on fit.
>>107794992Hardly a slight against the FT1 in particular when even DCA cans are horrendously fit-dependent
>>107794992I've been getting into the headphone hobby for a few months now but I still don't have any idea what frequency response really means. People throw it out there as this big problem with some headphones but what does that actually mean? I rarely if ever see it mentioned in reviews though so is it actually something important I have to track? Where do you even find information on it. What is it?
>>107788449Chord Mojo2 is one of the DACs of all time.
>>107795087Frequency response is, for the most part, the only headphone characteristic that humans can truly perceive. A person directly perceives FR through the auditory system, relayed to the brain. Human hearing is remarkably imprecise. People can enjoy virtually any FR, a fact marketing departments exploit quite effectively. Revealing the technological shortcomings of overpriced devices isn't a viable option for marketers. Research has determined that certain FR curves appeal to the majority and are simultaneously neutral. The problem is that FR at the tympanic membrane varies significantly from person to person. Over-ear headphones exhibit substantial differences in FR at the individual’s tympanic membrane compared to measurement rigs above 3 kHz, and bass depth is also heavily dependent on fit. Nevertheless, FR measurements remain the most significant objective characteristic of headphone sound, and are generally the standard for evaluation. You can find FR measurements there: https://squig.link/ The more closely a headphone’s FR matches a neutral target, the better it performs. Equalization is even more crucial for over-ear headphones than for IEMs and is more complicated.
Are the Sennheiser HD 560's still the best value headphones for music production and accurate no-sugar coated sound at $180?
>>107795947If you’re just doing mixing the 560 is a good one. I have this better dynamic for tracking and it’s also good. But if you could have only one, the senns are the one to have.
I got a pair of Sennheiser HE-1's recently and I wasn't too pleased. They just sound a bit dull. What do I upgrade to?
Audio is probably the most stagnant and boring thing in technology. Even pencils have more development going on. The official standard-issue status-quo headphones are and will always be DT770 and HD600. Nothing ever happens, nothing ever changes.

>>10778844975€ dt 270 pro retard is finally back for a small """review""":>it's too bassyit's not, no matter how good of a seal I get, normal amount of bass, "overkill amounts of bass" are nowhere to be found.>absolutely 0 sibilancealso couldn't replicate, these have normal levels of sibilance for me, none on most songs but it does get annoying in poorly mastered ones like with most other headphones, this might be due to the hrtf of my ears though I guess, definitely not dt770/990 level though, it's fine.>the bass distortsalso couldn't replicate, listened a lot on maxed out volume and probably lost some hearing permanently from that but couldn't detect distortion in bass. They sound nice and everything, i'm not even mad (though would've liked more bass and less treble even more), it's just that solderdude probably fucked up his measurements or something, the gadetrytech squiglink seems to agree with my findings.comfort: pretty good but I do sometimes still get my earlobe stuck under the pads, i'm getting used to fitting my ears inside the small pads more and more with time, my 55mm ears fit in like a glove.cable: decent, isn't microphonic for me, plus the 3.5" isn't recessed or anything and any random aux cable works fine.build quality seems nice but I dislike the cheap sound the light plastic headband makes when I leave it on my desk.very stupid nitpick: I thought the earcups were supposed to rotate downwards (mdr m1 style) and was one of the reasons i boughted this (i like when headphones sit flat on my desk) but... no it's actually the other way around, completely ponitless and just makes it annoying cause they rotate in a useless position half the time i pick them up, does anyone know if a passive channel inverter exists? would fix this problem as they're otherwise simmetrical and the jack plugs either way, strangely it doesn't look like it does.>inb4 just use eqapoi want the channels inverted on every device and to not affect other headphones.
>>107797078also some facts for those that care about the included usb-c dongle, which no review has ever covered yet:-it supports the windows built in audio effects (yes i know they're pointless when eq-apo exists but it's nice that you don't have to install shit for those to work), no other dongle i've ever used does this.-for some reason only 8000Hz and 48000 Hz 16 bit is supported, not even 44100 Hz 16 bit, also no 24 bit, very strange limitation.-volume output isn't as loud as a chinkshit dongle (70% as loud as my JCALLY JA56) but isn't eu-cucked like the apple dongle is either, also no difference in volume on android.-the dongle audio device name is "DT 270 Pro", it's supposed to be strictly part of the headphone and not sold separately, although it does work with any other headphone (of course) and they'll probably list this under the spare parts for it.
>>107796957I already redeemed them. Haven't noticed headband snapping, though.
>>107797143>>107797078Nice review. If the sibilance is too bad, you could try the tissue mod, it helps out on a lot of these beyer cans.
After waiting weeks it finally shipped. Just a few more days and hopefully my troubles will finally be behind me. Gotta keep this thread alive somehow until then.
>>107797231>you could try the tissue modI know about the toilet paper mod and did think of this, but i don't want to start messing around with it yet, also i'm paranoid about messing up the pads taking them on/off (realistically not an issue but autism) and no spares are available yet.>If the sibilance is too badI don't think it is, i would prefer a bt less of it but i'm also liking how it sounds on well mastered recordings and you can't really filter out sibilance without lowering the entire treble range down (i think)I might also be interested in some pad rolling (since these use classic rounded lip into groove style pads and no clips or particular shape) but nobody seems to have experimented with that yet and I'm afraid nobody ever will if these end up being as popular as the 240 pro were, also the stock pads are already quite nice (especially in this price range where you usually get 1mm thick pleather like on the m50x and 7506).I'm thinking a 3d printed adapter to fit the slightly bigger and similarly tuned 700 pro x pads could improve comfort while sticking to a genuine easily obtainable beyer part that looks like the original pads.Another interesting mod might be just removing the original headband (which is replaceable so it can be unclipped) and putting a zmf pilot pad on it instead, the buttonable 770 headband might also fit???Basically you could probably increase comfort further (which is already pretty good btw) to turn this into a poor mans 700 pro x is what i'm saying.
>>107797572One of those ZMF crescent snaps might work too, not sure which is more comfortable between that and the Pilot pad.
>>107797078Are these made in Germany?
>>107797078other stuff I forgot to mention before/couldn't because of the character limit:-the plastic headband seems to have a couple of extremely thin (very hard to see/feel) perfectly straight "cracks" at the sides which is interesting because there have been reports of the 700/900 pro x headband breaking and cracking in similar places, my guess is that they did this to prevent having this same issue on the 270 pro, it serves as strain relief to prevent stress of the plastic from building up in that areas, or at least, that's my theory.-I can confirm that the passive noise isolation is in fact pretty good, as stated in most reviews, it halves the volume of most sounds, and decreases the sound of my own voice by a fuckton making it actually kind of hard to understand what I sound like when I wear these.
>>107797634yeah a smaller pad might work better for these.>>107797636unfortunately no, they're made in china, but it makes sense considering the price/performance, there's no way they could make these without the help of a chinkshit sweatshop. And also, the headphones it competes with (7506/m50x/ft1/hd 569) are also all made in china, price is one of the most important factors when making an entry level studio/hifi headphone at the 100€/$ price range, i'm not too mad at the decision of making these in china, it's kind of mandatory here.

>>107793053bump and wanted to also add:maybe i should just get Shure SRH440A and stfu? Also i tried and checked reddit and lots of people talk about beyerdynamic DT's but they are out of budget, was just curious why nobody speaks of them hereAlso I wanted to add that im having some health issues because of prolonged use of headphones, im clean but probably pressure mixed with prolonged wear causes moisture in my ears and has caused me a infection recently (literally using the headphones 24/7). On PC, you can use equalizer software to tweak how the sound coming out of your speakers soundIf I'm using speakers with a game console where the audio isn't running through a PC first, is there a way to still tweak that sound output? Do they make physical equalizers I can run in between the speakers and the display? If so, what should I be looking up and be aware of if I want to buy one?t. anon who knows very little about audio
>>107807891a lot of old stereo receivers/amps had eq settings you could adjust, there were also separate components you could buy called 'graphic equalizers'. Schiit makes the loki/lokius but they are kind of expensive but so are some of the old ones for what they are.

>>107808124a cheap chinkshit aliexpress dongle should be more than enough for 80 ohm 770s unless you really like volume so high that it ruptures your eardrums, you really don't need one of those expensive bulky audiophool amplifiers every retard likes to recommend around here.

Instead of a JDS product what do you guys think about Schiit? Right now I have a Fosi ZH3, it's working mostly fine but there is any annoying thing where it takes a fraction of a second for sound to start playing so you might miss the first word in a video. I was looking at schiit as an alternative american choice. Between the Gunnr and the modi do you think one has a real advantage? The gunnr is a few bucks more but are those "gamer" extras actually worth it? What do they really add? I was thinking the modi might be better because its a refresh whereas the gunnr is pretty old at this point. The zh3 was 200 dollars so they all pretty much cost the same. I can still return the zh3 by the end of jan and switch. The only thing holding me back is I like the remote control with the zh3 and the schiit stuff doesn't have that.
>>107809325modi=magni whups

Does anyone have any opinions on the hd 490 pro? or could compare them to the 650/6xxSeen a pair locally for very reasonable
>>107809630I have a pair coming in the mail on sunday. Gone through a lot of headphones trying to find the one and I'm hoping it's it. I have the 600 and 550 and both sound nice but clamp too hard or in weird spots. Most reviews say the 490's are much more comfortable while still sounding almost as good if not better in some areas. I think you could do a lot worse and if you found a good deal I would go for it.Found this review today too which was very positive about them. https://daemonxar.com/2025/12/20/the-sennheiser-hd-490-pro-my-new-reference-open-back-a-warning-shot-at-sonova-both/
>>107789083You could have gotten hit with a surge or lightning or something. Why would the power flipping off and on fuck up the DSP like that
>>107795087Frequency response is how loud the headphone/speaker plays any frequency, usually represented as a curve on a graph or a range that fits in a described +- dB. It's probably the most important measure of sound quality. So for example if I place you at normandy during D day,you will hear the explosions and gunshots with perfect audio quality because you're not reproducing the sound with speakers at home and introducing the inaccuracy of those speakers. If you record the artillery blasts with your cell phone and play it back on your phone it won't sound real at all not just because your cell phone can't get loud enough, but it's tiny speakers are completely silent in the low frequency range. The perfect headphones and speakers have a flat frequency response and play all frequencies at equal loudness so that you can listen to anything accurately and someone else with different perfect headphones and speakers will hear the same thing.
>>107807891They make DSPs that have digital or analog inputs and then output with RCA or something, and you set equalization with a PC. There's Mini DSP and parts express/dayton audio has one. Don't know how many features or in and outs you need. They have eARCs one that connect to your tv and get the audio from HDMI so anything plugged to your TV can output to it, if you didn't have 5.1 or something. The mini DSPs can't decode dolby/dts though and only PCM which pisses me off. You can even get ones with bluetooth so you can connect your phone to it and play your music.
>>107810048>if you didn't have 5.1 or somethingI meant optical or SPDIF or the orange one or whatever the fuck its called. I'm tired and typed this nonsense for some reason.
>>107795087>>107809965https://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/You can play tones with this tone generator, you will hear some frequencies are clearly louder than others and some you can't hear at all, some you can't hear because you're human, some you can't hear because of aging or genetics, some are fucked up because of the room you're in, some are fucked up because your speaker/headphone drivers suck. But you'll understand that the frequencies aren't playing at an equal loudness. Microphones can also have this problem where they don't record all frequencies at equal loudness.

How risky is it to buy used dac/amps? This looks like a really good deal, would jds honor a warranty if I buy it used or am I taking my chances?
>>107807515>it doesn't really get solved until you get a decent all around planar like the aeon,TRVKE>>107795087It is quite literally one of the most important characteristics of a headphone next to distortion. It's how the headphone sounds. If the frequency response is bad, the headphone will sound bad. Now, you can fix it with EQ, but only if you're not limited by distortion. And if there's a deep notch in the frequency response(like the pre-2021 LCD-X used to have before they fixed it) then even with EQ it might be difficult because applying a peak filter with a value of >15dB to fix one notch is a little difficult. If a reviewer doesn't post the frequency response then that "reviewer" is basically worthless. Subjective impressions from listening don't matter that much due to HRTF - meaning everyone hears things differently. What someone percieves as too much treble might be not enough treble for you. This is due to the shape of our ears and ear canals. So a review without the frequency response means nothing since despite the reviewer saying some headphones sound "warm", they might actually be bright to you. FR in a review is the bare minimum to be credible, even better if they post THD, group delay, cumulative spectral decay or step response. You don't see any of these in most reviews because audiophiles are retarded and would rather believe in changing the sound via gold plated cables of different DAC chips, among other things.>>107810283>How risky is it to buy used dac/amps?If the seller has good reviews then it's probably fine. Really hard to break one intentionally and if the seller has decent reviews it's probably not a dead unit.>would jds honor a warranty if I buy it usedDoubtful they would. Maybe if the guy still has the original receipt/invoice from when he bought them. But even then they might not.
