stability;
perfect, i almost never mess with proton for more than 3 minutes lol
these are the games i play on steam, rayman 3 is from GOG.
Im running fedora as you can see which has better support for the stuff i need compared to something like debian or wtv

performance;
all of my games run on ultra without any fps issues, i use niri (wayland) and every game renders and works just fine ootb

qol;
sure there are a few annoyances i have with niri and sway or whatever but they're mostly gone if you just use something simpler like KDE (windows on linux) or GNOME, those two come with everything preinstalled and ready, so you can just boot a fresh install and just play most steam games, if you pirate anything i also recommend using lutris to run the installer and then putting it on steam for controller support + picking proton version, although i barely buy games so I haven't pirated on this machine yet.

fun;
i love open source software so linux is perfect for me, most of my tools are either selfhosted or entirely offline, i def recommend it if you're tired of microsoft's bullshit.
the only thing i cant run is my college's exam software that like, palantir locks down ur pc, but i have a throwaway laptop for that on win11

I always used a modified version of the WaterLight theme for IceWM. I had some free time and remade everything from scratch to stop relying like a parasite on themes that are probably over a decade old by now. Not much has changed visually but at least something new happened on my desktop.

FINAL CUT is one of the most underrated albums in music history. I used WHEEZY and had the same setup I do now, Openbox on xorg, but didn't know about tty-clock or cbonsai then.
>>107794845
STARK, very minimal, lots of BLACK VOID, sliver of MOON, melikes.

There is nothing at all wrong with OLD. For example, humanity could perhaps benefit greatly from STOPPING MAKING NEW for a while. No new music, movies, shows, etc. and spend more time finding and gaining the greater depths of value still hiding within all that has already been CREATED, and appreciate it to the levels proper to what it should have been appreciated previously, but was yet another just another in the effectively infinite path of DISPOSABLE EVERYTHING DISCARD AND GO TO MUH NEXT MUH NEW.

Disposability is one of the most detrimental symptoms of some of our deepest collective sicknesses.

I looked at all of your DESKTOPS and MELOVES them all. They are each representational extensions/projections of the human and psyche "behind" them, and all of those humans/psyches are fascinating. I wonder what caused you each to be drawn here, to GATHER and to stay?

People do this regularly?. If you dont run it on bare metal why even post it? I can make something look super sick in a vm but totally unusable. Is there a legitimate reason why you would run linux for personal use in a vm?

Yes, I tried 4.0 a couple of days ago, but I really don't feel that anything has changed. In terms of functionality for the average user, I would say the only new thing is the changes made when using Alt+Tab, but honestly, it still feels the same even in that regard. If you want to try it, Alpine has the latest package so you are lucky, there are Nord themes out there too. Guix is still on 3.9.0 so you need to coompile it there... That's it, I'm switching to Alpine.

It's something I've thought about and mostly agree with,although personally,I wouldn't go as far as to say that we should stop making new things. If you say it because of the theme topic, I have no problem with that; it served me well and faithfully for years! (WaterLight is 17yo at least it seems) However, there are certain things that simply didn't look as I wanted,even after modifying them.The look of my desk is so simple and boring that it didn't take much effort to re-create everything from scratch according to what I want, and I didn't waste more than, at most, an hour on it. What I'm saying is, something old inspired me to simplify and create something n*w, but not because the old one was bad at all. Something old gave me freedom, ideas, whatnot. I myself consume a lot of old media, I mostly read classics, use old software, etc.It would be hypocritical of me to discard old things just on a whim and join the NEW ALWAYS BETTAH trend.As always,good writing. Melikes.
>>
>>107795496
Indeed, it was intended to be a general notion, which I've long held, and was merely inspired to express into manifestation as a result of your remark, but /not/ intended to be a criticism of your specific /usecase/. And, I use the "stop making new things" as something of a thought experiment for people to do that "forces them" to actually imagine "being stuck with" only everything that's ever been created thus far, and what all NEGLECTED TREASURE is still buried within it /all/.

I do hate new cars though, and would love it if no new ones were made after maybe 1957, but even bettah would be a return to horses, wagons, and TRAINS.
