I kinda want to go for a 420MM AIO, but I'm really not sure if it's worthwhile on a 9800X3D. But, I will eventually upgrade from the 9800X3D, so maybe it's an upgrade that will make sense later down the line when/if I go for a new CPU.
Is AMD even sticking with AM5 sockets for the next gen?

I kinda want a little RGB, but not too much. A little illumination, not flashing strips of rainbow shit. Is that even possible? Do they make just fill lights?

IDK about that anon but I sure did so i rolled with my first AIO, have avoided liquid cooling in the past. if it goes south on me i will post here and anons will roast my butthurt. it is however really quiet most of the time and i love it for that.

In terms of performance, not really. Some of the CPU rendering I do in 3DS Max kinda counts, I guess. But, I got an 9800X3D and not a 9950X3D, so that kinda says it all for how much I really care about CPU performance outside of gaming.
As is, Cyberpunk can take it up to 60C, and I can thermal throttle with synthetic benchmarks, but obviously that's kinda worthless as a metric. I have my fans set to "Silent", and honestly the airflow in this case is so good I've never seen thermals this low at load on any system I've built.


I think the problem is that I've spent a bunch of money on a cool PC, and so I want it to be special, and instead it's just "A computer".

Yeah, flu pro is great. I have no complaints about it.
The only complaint I have for it is the temperature readouts. You need Antec's software for it. It's called "iUnity", it largely sucks, but it goes away pretty easy.

I was considering getting the ProArt board myself, but I really couldn't justify the extra price, as nice as it is. I ended up finding a B-grade Crosshair Hero, and it was a price I couldn't really turn down.

Subpixel layout on LG's 4K RGB OLED panel photographed.
They did the logical thing and may all the R, G, & B subpixels the same size like LCDs and in oppostion to the V-Stripe layout Samsung did where each subpixel is of slightly different heights. I will be curious to see if this manifests any differences in text clarity or other changes when both are released. Also HUBTim states that eventually they hope to have LG's 4K RGB OLED TrueBlack500-certified (meaning ~300 nits full field) despite the loss of the White subpixel. DisplayGuy brought a meter to the CES floor and measured the pre-production unit ASUS had on display at a little over ~200 nits full-field.

for as long as I can't use the monitor for productivity without getting burn-in I will not buy oled, I'll stick with VA ultrawide and pray they'll make IPS ultrawides some day

When I say a slow boot, I mean a 30-40 second boot compared to my AM4 system with the same drive was 20~ seconds at most.
When I say PCIE issues I mean the GPU doesn't properly initialise which causes massive system lag, where it looks like there isn't even hardware acceleration, graphical artifacts occur until the PC crashes, a driver refresh causes the PC to crash outright.
This happens roughly 1/20 boots on this system.
The same GPU does not exhibit or has ever exhibited the same behaviour on my AM4 system.

No riser, honestly, I should have set it to PCIE Gen4 but I think I reset the BIOS a bit ago, after tweaking with it for too many hours trying to find out what was wrong with my system.
I know I tightened up the memory tunings, but outside of that I think it's mostly default.
I should probably switch it back from Auto to Gen4 and see what happens, but I'm so disheartened that I will sit down, turn the PC on and basically have the same thing happen regardless.

On poe2, ultra performance, 4k monitor 4060ti16gb, standing in hideout(in town basically) in the same corner.
Preset M gives 141 fps
Preset L gives 132 fps
Preset K gives 139 fps

The ultra performance setting looks lot better now with L and M. Previously I didn't even use it, I used K with performance.
Nvidia forum post says L is recommended for 4k ultra performance but I don't think it looks any better than M and loses some fps.
And why not use better modes like quality? Because in when actually playing the game not standing idle in town the fps still drops to 40 sometimes. There just isn't reliable and easy way for test for that case.

I'm building a replacement PC and for obvious reasons, I want to recycle my DDR4 RAM.
I have 4x16GB DDR4-3333 non-EC unbuffered RAM from when I built a gaming PC in 2018. It seems like DD5 doesn't surpass that by enough to make the blistering price worth it, so I'll stick to DDR4.

Can anyone recommend a good motherboard for this?
Also fitting a bunch of SATA drives, I could add up to six if I wanted (WD6TBs/WD2TBs/1x120GB SSD). Plus an M2 512GB SSD. I kind of maybe need a mini PCIE slot for a weird peripheral as well but it might not be critical, 2xPCIEs would guarantee I can run a HBA for the drives though.
