Will you be buying a new 3600x and RTX 3060 this year, /g/?
>>
No I already have those old relics in a box somewhere together with enough old parts to build a dozen computers.
>>
>>107796782
Only if Intel releases a new chip on their 14nm process
I am starting to think man was never supposed to exceed 14nm
>>
>>107796782
My conspiracy theory: The real reason why Nvidia is bringing back the 3060 is because they know people are so fed up of shitty modern Windows they are going back to Windows 7. Nvidia is too hypocrite to start officially supporting Win7 again though so instead they do this. (too bad, if they did we'd have cuda 12/13 on win7)
Next you'll see new motherboards with AM4 chipsets, for the same reason.

And since when are Ryzen 7 "old hardware" ?
>>
>>107796933
It's because they made shit tons of 30 series cards and held them to see where scalping prices land. There's entire warehouses of new 30 series cards sitting to artificially inflate used market prices. That's mostly why EVGA left the GPU market, Nvidia is predatory towards it's own partners by holding stock to create bull markets.
Once the 3090 is obsoleted for AI they'll flood the market with them for $1200. That's the only card that could actually damage sales of 40 or 50 series cards.
>>
>>107796782
I've had 3060 Ti and 16 GB of RAM for like 5 years now and have no reason to upgrade. Every game works fine.
>>
>>107796782
Why? I'm still on AM4 Ryzen and 3000 series GPU.
>>107796933
>And since when are Ryzen 7 "old hardware" ?
Ryzen is 9 years old.
>>
>>107797507
That feeling when reality is more evil than my conspiracy theory.
>>
>could be easily making consumer parts that are 2x more powerful and have 2x more memory than today, but since all competitors can only manage 0.5x of your current power, you cut your parts down to 0.5x as well.

Gamers in 2035 will be using machines that are basically as powerful as top machines were 2026. Calling it now.
>>
>>107796782
I will be keeping my AMD AM4 5950X / 9070 XT system for the foreseeable future until we actually see new consumer hardware 10 years from now.
>>
>>107796782
He shits out 5 videos a day with 5 different ads in each. How can anyone with any self respect watch sloptubers like this?
>>

First gen ryzen 9 years old get it right dickhead
>>
>>107798150
I hope it'll be arm
>>
>>107796782
Tech tubers make these videos to drive up the prices of old hardware through creating panics and bandwagons.
>>
>>107796782
I bought 3 3060s at Christmas. More vram for inference than a 5090 and a third of the price for all 3.

No, I already have a 5950X, a 5700G and a 3900X. If AMD somehow decides to make a 5950X3D by putting a 5800X3D die in the thing, then I will buy one of those so I can pass the X3D cores to my GPU passthrough VM.
>>
I'll never be able to upgrade my 2070 super? That sucks. Good thing I already have my 96GB of DDR5-6000, that'll last me I hope.
>>
>>107798365
how can you browse g and still see ads
>>
>>107798150
I bought my X470 board in 2018 thinking I'd keep it for about 5 years and upgrade when DDR5 came out, only to end up getting a 5800X3D and realizing I'd be good for an extra 2-3 years or so. Now I'm thinking this board will probably last me until 2030 with how technology is REGRESSING. Lmao it's actually depressing in some ways.

I rarely play present day AAA slop but:
>I have my gaming laptop.
>I also have a steam deck.
>i'm playing my winter car on my old 4790k system with 2070 (this is hooked up to my simrig since VR needs windows). I could hook this up to my main setup if needs be.
I've also got an old core 2 quad system with 4870 if everything else spontaneously broke and I could just finish fallout new vegas on that.
you're a weak pussy if you pay these smoothbrain prices.
>>
>>107799179
make sure to lower your temps
something something arrhenius equation
somethin something else an increase of 10°C in temps halves the lifespan of your semiconductors, as a rule of thumb
>>
>>107796916
12 gen is still on a rebranded 14nm+++++++++++++
>>
>>107799209
My 4090 which doesn't even hit 65C in full load should be doing great then.
>>
>>107798550
Why? x86 constantly gets more and more efficient every generation but with arm you'll lose on backwards compatibility. Arm only makes sense in cheap laptops that aare going to be the nu-age netbooks that are only used for web browsing.
>>
>>107799245
yeah. 65°C thermal equilibrium is VERY good
you probably can do better though
if its applicable for you (as in: youre not clumsy, your rig is in a secure place by itself) check your temps with sidepanels removed

i run w/o sidepanels since back when it was still worth it to overclock your stuff (and the systems were less complex to be honest. i couldnt be arsed to learn all about the power tables and such today. you had front side bus frequency and then you had multipliers for your cpu, ram and thats it)
>>
>>107796782
It's literally just scalpers trying to get ahead of the curve to scam retards. Anyone buying a 1080 in 2026 should be shot on the streets.
>>
>>107796782
Now that you mention it, I would like to know how viable it would be to use multiple 12GB 3060s for a personal Blender animation rendering server I'm interested in building.
>>
>upgraded last year

weird cope
me, i dont give a shit
ill just buy server-grade now
>>
>>107799443
This, the endless cycle of buying stuff that becomes worthless within a few years is over. In a way this makes having a computer almost free: buy a $2000 computer, use it for a couple of years, sell it for $2000, it's like you rented it for $0.

>>
>>107799278
I could try to remove the side panels, but the case is pretty well ventilated so I kind of doubt it would make a difference. If I really wanted to lower the card's temps even more (without increasing fan speed, obviously) I could undervolt it to reduce power consumption outright, but I feel like it's already running plenty cool (and some games don't even push it to full 450W load to begin with)
>>
>>107796782
nah i got a 9800x3d, 64gb of ddr5 cl30 6000mhz ram and a 5080 right before prices went up
>>
>>107799716
id still do it, what if your thermal equilibrium is actually at 55°C?
also the hot air in the case affects other components like ram

this may be overkill, but thats what i do since 20 years now
>>
>>107799716
>>107799876

on the other hand, you better make 110% sure youre never gonna drop anything into your case and such
because that would be stupid too

i keep my computer in the kind of furniture usually we used for tvs.
top shelf for the actual tv, lower shelf for the vcr
i keep my rig in the lower shelf so i still have a good protection, just in case

but i have a case of sorts
its just that theres big fuckass holes in it so to speak
>>
am i gonna make it with my 9060xt 16 gig or is it fucking over for me
>>
>>107800052
Why wouldn't you?
T. 6800xt and making it
>>
>>107800052
If it's for gaming, it should keep you nice and comfy for a few years, especially with FSR.
>>
>>107800052
That 16GB VRAM should give you a hefty amount of legroom.

im honestly something of a gigabyte fanboi, i always bought their mobos, never was disappointed, up until the last one
i boughted an assrock
im not disappointed but i feel dirty, and devious because of that
>>
>>107800433
i too have somehow ended up with gigabyte stuff a lot over the years
its always been the best price, and its always stayed alive for 6+ years
gpus, mb's, etc.
>>
Don’t be surprised when cpus start going the way guys and ram went, it takes fab space to make consumer cous and they are tying up all the fabs with ai stuff
>>
>>107800472
theyre just fkn decent
i never was disappointed with their products

we might have been lucky though,
sometime i see anons posting hate over gigabyte products
>>
>>107799274
It works on Apple pretty damn good. For any laptop. I like insane responsiveness. Desktops I don't know, maybe with large amount of cores gonna be good also. Besides this gonna help with thinner and smaller devices such as tablet 2 in 1s or steamdeckish stuff.
>>
>>107801768
Try installing a program not updated since Catalina on any modern macs, macfags are struggling with it every day.
>>
>>107796782

Did they ever fix the CPU degradation with zen2 (and zen3 to a lesser extent) or are they still sweeping it under the rug?
>>

But they don't? Everything that isn't abandoned was updated long time ago.

my motherboard is a x370 i bought around black friday 2017 and i just added a 5700x3d last year, missed the train on 5800x3d those were literally 2x the price here
>>
>>107798550
ARM will only make sense if you plan to run Linux. Microsoft has already proven they're too incompetent to deliver for the desktop. Valve meanwhile is releasing a VR headset that runs ARM and has a built-in translator for running games on it directly. The only thing that's missing is good hardware. ARM has no ecosystem. Where can I buy a decent motherboard with socketable ARM CPU that also has decent performance? It doesn't exist.
>>
>>107802082
Maybe. I personally haven't found anything useful that wan't ported on arm.
>>
>>107796782
I will not be buying anything until my GTX 1080 and i7 6700k both die screaming in a puddle of melted silicon
>>
>>107800301
Since AM4 X3D chips are all artificially expensive now, wouldn't getting a 13/14th gen intel CPU and a DDR4 motherboard be better? A 14600k in a B760 DDR4 board should still outperform a regular 5800x without the X3D boost.

And everyone is scared the overclocking 14th gen K chips are going to fry themselves, so they're cheaper. cheap enough to warrant putting in a B760 board that can't overclock anyway so you don't need to think about it.
>>
>>107803278
Games?
You weren't playing them on macOS anyway though given gaming has been dead ever since Apple decided to abandon OpenGL and Vulkan in favour of Metal.
>>
>>107800271
32gb is the new minimum for 10x frame gen and upscaling 480 to 8k
>>
>>107803307
Maybe. Funny enough game situation is way better after they switched to arm. Older titles would probably work fine on rossetta or wine.
Btw, all 32bit programs don't work on modern macos even on intel.
>>
>>107803331
Kek. You're not wrong. It's kind of laughable that all the companies make a big deal out of frame gen when it won't fix the unplayable stuttering mess unless you have a good a baseline to begin with.

Since I was getting somewhat stable 60 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 I turned on frame gen with a cap of 120 FPS and most of the time I'm getting fake FPS at 70-80 FPS. Wow! A whole 10-20 extra frames. I'll take it but it's no groundbreaking. Anyone selling this snake oil as the solution to everyone's problems need to lose their cushy marketing job. Just be honest. We're fucked.
>>
>>107803346
>Btw, all 32bit programs don't work on modern macos even on intel.
Wine has WOW64 emulation for 32-bit on 64-bit so that's fine. This was actually a really good move from Apple eliminating 32-bit and I wish everyone else would catch up already. Valve finally good a 64-bit client for Windows in the latest beta but crickets about their Linux support.
>>
>>107796782
>supply fot 5-6 year old parts is now shooting up in price and drying up in supply 7 days into 2026
>still nothing for me to buy that would be a meaningful upgrade for a 3700x/3060 ti system
>>
>>107796782
I'm still using the 16GB 3060 I bought when they were new. Werks fine for everything I have tried.
