I bought an external hard drive, UPS needed 4 tries to deliver it because they tried to deliver it to a shop that's closed again and again until I called them and said to deliver it to my address. So it's been loaded and unloaded from the tuck 4 times and probably been thrown a lot. The outer box is visibly dented. Should I send it back? It does have 4 year warranty though.
The inner box has small dents in the corners. There was no bubble envelope or anything
These are the sounds it was making when running the smart check https://vocaroo.com/12fGhwD0q16t
>>107805358scaryid send it the fuck backalso wtf is wrong with american deliveries?i also used ups, but i never had anything of the sort happen to meis it because they leave the packages on the porch, and so they just dont give a fuck?bc in jewrope ups driver give you the thing in hand and you have to sign a receipt
>>107805123not my problem retard. fuck off
>>107805358sounds great, put all your important data on there and don't make a backupunironcally though don't buy hard drives online, go to a store where you can take them back if they fail the SMART test, that's what I've been doing for the last 15 years, my store bought ones were all fine
why are you using antiquated technology in an external drive? external m.2 enclosures exist, and can make use of thunderbolt speeds.
>>107805491some need storage capacity over speed, crazy concept i know
>>107805517then get an ssd. there's literally no reason to use drives with moving parts.
>>107805552holy ignorantno, i will not elaborate
>>107805491It's a 16tb drive for a server.I've decided to return it.
>>107805123I've pulled 5 year old HDDs out of DVRs that were thrown in the trash on the side of the road and they worked fine. If you've got a warranty though take advantage of it.
>>107805564~because you can'ttt~
>>107805612no, because i caught the flu so everyone must suffer now
>>107805552>sata SSD>in 2026Lol sata SSDs are completely obsolete these days. If you need capacity HDDs are better and if you need speed NVMe are better.
>>107805656nvme's take up your pcie lanes, or run at sata speed otherwisealso you can raid ssd's
>>107805656they're cheap on ali, at least they were. i was buying 500gb sata m2's for like 10 bucks last year. i keep them mounted in high traffic low value mounts.
>>107805552who the fuck buys SSDs for over 20 TB of stuff?fucking zoom-zoom own nothing and be happy retard
>>107805450I've bought $10 500GB HDDs from eBay, and none have failed me yet. I scanned them through Crystal Disk Info, and they all came out fine--last time I check, that is...They're from e-waste recycling centers, and actually aren't that old. Don't know if that was a good deal or not though. Probably would've been better to buy at least a TB. >>107805609My oldest drives are from 2008 and 2013, both 3.5". My backup drive with all my maymays is from 2015.
>>107805358So is this normal or not? The HDD also makes a knocking sound.
>>107808169ye don't to worry
>>107808346sure?
>>107805358Keep it, and use it for science fiction sound design.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ywWFvjE-yU
