How come Netflix, Apple, OpenAI, or Meta use it in their stack huh? Will Zig be remembered the same way we remember Ruby when it was Ruby vs Python after Python won the race for being able to scale better?
>>107805676Can you repeat the question?
zig is a yet another meme language
>>107805676Make it make sense to me. I just don't like it's syntax when it comes to casting and stuff. It also doesn't have ability to add information to error payloads which is very annoying if you're working in anything that's supposed to return an error
>>107805718How come they don't use it in their mega tech stacks if it's sooooooooooooo good?
>>107805782errno works, stop returning tuples that i have to contend with
>>107805782>I just don't like it is syntaxironic
>>107805676That's because the language is in active development and isn't production ready, by their very own fucking words. They reserve the right to change anything about the language for now. Although Zig is already doing better than a lot of nu-langs as Bun.js is written in it.You can delete your shitty thread now.
>>107805782>casting syntaxI ditched the language in favor of Odin entirely because of this reason.
>>107805676Move zig.
>>107805830Was it that difficult to write it properly like that the first time?I literally couldn't understand the AI bot gibberish you wrote in OP.
Some of the new languages are quite good, but the hype around them is so disgusting and repulsive I'm completely losing interest in them. Hype will blow everything out of proportion.
>>107806757Sorry, I was really high when I made the thread. I saw it after I had already hit submit and say the file_name.jpg title on the screen.
>>107805676The language looks good and I like their simple self-contained compiler and build system. I've seen more than one person say that using its built-in C compiler is a better experience than setting up a normal C compiler. But I'm not sure where it's going to be used. It doesn't seem to stand out for any one use case. Games are going to continue using C++. Security-critical libraries are going to lean towards Rust. Low level reverse engineering stuff is going to stick with C. It doesn't compete with Go or with anything like Typescript or Python.
>>107805676>corporation uses something in their stack so it must be goodthey use all kinds of shit in their "stack", that's not a measure of quality, it's a memeis it stable? is it portable? does it have a rich library ecosystem?
>>107805676>Netflix, Apple, OpenAI, or MetaThey used to use D-lang and Java. So nobody cares, and no, you are not a trillion dollar company who can afford to hire a myriad of engineers to do a CRUD.
>>107805676dont forget to flush :)
rust and go already won the low-level wars and C/C++ is not going anywhere. zig/nim/hare/jai/v and all the other shitlangs will be forgotten in the next 5 years
>>107806080Odin is definitely my favorite out of these newer languages, I just don't see it useful enough to not just keep using C.
