My first gen Boox Note Air is dying (still runs Android 10, the panel is going gray).I've looked around and it seems Remarkable has the best hardware but is even more closed down than Apple, and Boox has very buggy and bad software on their newer models.Any recommendations?I do PDFs and some note taking
Supernote A5X2, though those also only run Android 11.iFlytek AINote 2 if you don't care about privacy.>Remarkable has the best hardwareThe Remarkable 2 came out almost 6 years ago and the 8GB storage were limited even back then. Remarkable Paper Pro is a very specific device due to the Gallery based color. Remarkable as a platform is an odd mix between locked down and openness. There's mods and homebrew software but the company also locks a bunch of features behind a subscription paywall. You might wait to see if Boox manages to fix their shit or Remarkable 3 comes out.

>>107806575>iFlytek AINote 2I saw MDG's review. It's great but all the AI stuff is not for me___Do you think smaller sizes than 10" are useful? I never tried them
>>107806632Not for pdf, even 10" can get cramped for larger formats. I'd rather recommend going bigger but there's not a whole lot of 13" readers to pick from.Note taking on smaller sizes is also going to be a compromise. 7.8" and 8" devices have largely disappeared from the market aside from Supernote A6X2. We've seen a few 7" devices with note taking capabilities but they all use an active stylus with worse performance/feel than the EMR ones. Remarkable Paper Pro Move seems like the best option at the moment but the price point and limited uses are hard to justify for most people.
>>107806465I have a PocketBook InkPad Eo. It's like a 10.3 inch color Boox/Bigme device, but the Android 11 OS is supplied by a Swiss company, instead of a Chinese one. I think this company co-owns the manufacturing company with Bigme, so their hardware is about identical. The official notetaking app was pretty simple, but it seems to have uninstalled itself at some point... Any other android app works though.I'm not very experienced with eink devices. Writing on this one takes a good moment to see screen updates. Feels laggy. Also some apps like Kindle crash occasionally, though not enough to be a problem for me.I have a feeling it's not more performant than the newest Boox devices, though. There's also the ThinkBook Plus Gen 4. 2-in-1 Windows laptop/tablet with a color eink screen (Windows-only drivers). They're expensive and hard to find though.
