any idea why we don't have processors with low power consumption like in laptops?i saw power consumption in idle for popular desktop processors and most all uses 40-60 watts in idle, similar laptops uses the halfshould'nt be an option for this?ps. i can't see a single image in this board, something wrong is happening in 4chan? i can see only text
Because generally you achieve lower power by lowering performance. This is a good tradeoff in a mobile device, but a bad one in a desktop. If you'd like to make that tradeoff anyway you're welcome to downclock your CPU so it uses less power.>ps. i can't see a single image in this board, something wrong is happening in 4chan? i can see only textIt's on your end. Works fine here. Also this board isn't tech support and we already have a stupid questions thread.

>>107806779Because desktop CPUs have important things like MOAR L3 cache and 64GB/s dedicated full-duplex communication dedicated to a dedicated graphics card. This is like asking why trucks don't use moped engines to save money on gas lol.

>>107806779I don't know where you pulled that data from, because idle power draw in modern desktop processors is nowhere near that high. 40w-60w is probably the idle power draw of the entire system, not only the processor.Perhaps if you're using Windows with the Ultimate Performance power plan (which keeps the processor at maximum turbo clock speed all the time even when idle), high end processors might draw up to 40w-50w in idle.>>107806798>If you'd like to make that tradeoff anyway you're welcome to downclock your CPU so it uses less powerAny desktop or mobile processor designed in the last 10 years already downclocks automatically when idle or at low usage. How much it downclocks and how often, largely depends on the OS power plan settings.
>>107806779you can most likely set whatever power limit you want in your motherboard firmware or in software
>>107806996>40w-60w is probably the idle power draw of the entire systemyes the entire system, but the half in processor with termination in u
>>107806779What does the kid fucker have to do with that?
>>107806779laptop CPUs are some of the highwest binned silicon AMD and intel can produce. Allocating them to laptops is also higher margin.

>>107806779We do though. I use the Intel N100 I believe in my mini pc that just self-hosts simple shit. The problem is that the tech just isn't there for high performance and low power consumption. I will say that shit like the Strix Halo goes pretty far since it can run high end games and shit while still only consuming around 120 watts I believe?
>>107807288>not all pedos!Disgusting..
>any idea why we don't have processors with low power consumption like in laptops?i saw power consumption in idle for popular desktop processors and most all uses 40-60 watts in idle, similar laptops uses the halfshould'nt be an option for this?It depends on the processor is it x86-64 then the only reasonable option is U processors or what intel does now?But if you are after battery life nothing defeats ARM here.>>107806779>ps. i can't see a single image in this board, something wrong is happening in 4chan? i can see only textYour gov banned you.
>>107806779 you can configure and enable most if not all power saving features in the bios for any desktop chip, it just requires you to not be a retard.
Why invest in low power when it's more cost effective to spit out 400W+ parts for datacenters?
>>107806779Lower power consumption CPUs would require highly efficient operating systems and software which runs counter to the current sloppification trend.
>>107806779Mac Studio / Mac mini They have like 15 TDP if you are watching 4k vid.And the whole Mac Studio has like 180 TDP total max when you are using it 100%.
