if you use ports, it should be similar to gentoo but you can either using the latest or a quarterly snapshot
if you stick to pkg, things should "just work" but you might need certain options that arent available with pkg. just make sure you keep in mind that you can shoot yourself in the foot very easily

i got you back bro.I tried GhostBSD on a vm ,so far it was doable and you've got wine and i remember installing something like a jail or a port that allowed me to execute a linuxapp or something because there's a layer of compatibility but i didn't dive too much in it as i didn't search much about the zfs file system but if one day linux is getting shit yeah i'll move to bsd.
