3d printers are really nice if you actually know how to make models. Be it functional things in CAD programs, or decorative sculpts.
Most people buy them to print garbage with files they downloaded off the internet.

The true usefulness is not in downloading slop from thingiverse, it's in repairing/modifying your shit.
