So I made the terrible mistake of studying to become a backend dev late in my life (I am 29 turning 30). I am currently working at my first internetship which is this webapp startup which basically is a wrapper for different AI models.

It fucking sucks, everything sucks. Not a single person writes their own code, everything is AI generated. No unit tests, no integration tests, just pure vibes and let people manually test code flow.

The CEO and Product Owner talks about shipping constantly but I feel like we are no where close.

MongoDB fucking sucks as well, holy hell I hate it so much. Give me MySQL or something similar.

Is this what software dev is like now? I can't expect anything else from now on?
>>
shut up intern
>>
>Is this what software dev is like now
been like this forever. you've seen nothing. you're lucky the code is AI generated and not retard generated because then you will want to kys yourself unironically

But do they do shit like this? Send in a PR like this without any message?

Tech is trash these days. Physical products are dogshit baked with planned obsolesce, shoddy construction, poorly engineered, horribly supported.
Software is even worse. Riddled with broken code, bugs, security holes.
I don't know if it's because zoomers and shitlennials are morons too stupid to do anything right, or if their focus in college was gender studies.
Either way, modern tech is shit.

One of my co-workers decided to get into dev a year ago, moving from transcription which is currently dying as well. She really knows how to pick them. Maybe you guys should date
>>
>>107813704
does she have a phat ass and huge tits with short hair and glasses?
>>
>>107813698
That is a nice PR though. net 7622 lines of code deleted.
Although if this kind of PR is happening casually on a regular basis then either the person making them is a genius prodigy or the code quality is extremely poor and the code base is very bloated.
>>
>>107813754
My guess would be the latter. Everyone who works on this project are interns. Not a single senior dev.
>>
>>107813659
>Is this what software dev is like now?
no, ur in a very shitty vorner of software dev, most likely doomed to fail (the company), figure a way out of that corner
>>

>MongoDB fucking sucks as well, holy hell I hate it so much. Give me MySQL or something similar.
Why do you feel that way? I made a little thingy and needed a database, so just went with mongo. Enlighten me.

>no, ur in a very shitty vorner of software dev, most likely doomed to fail (the company), figure a way out of that corner
What is a good corner of software dev right now? Where can I actually develop and become a better programmer?
>>
>>107813768
>Everyone who works on this project are interns. Not a single senior dev.
well, that's fucked up
>>
Why do you think all techcels can do is consooooom more shit and brag about wfh'ing for a few hours per week from their minimalist tranny disco setups?
It's a soul crushing profession. There is no joy and you're spending your entire life towards writing some code that has no real purpose.
>>
>>107813795
companies that have money and spend that money on the devs, aka there's a product, and that product produces money, like banks, insurance companies, multinationals, etc.
take my advice with a grain of salt, I've only seen a bit of the industry

Yeah, your company is going bankrupt in 3... 2... 1...

I think you should pick database depening on what you are actually trying to do.

Our webapp quite nicely maps to relational databases due to accounts having this or that.

Right now, to my knowledge, deleting an account means that you also have to delete every single thing associated with that account via code in the service layer, and if you don't you will have things staying around in your database that shouldnt exist.

A SQL database would fix that problem very easily.

I did my internship in a company like this too, turning 28 this year. Thankfully (?) I got a job in financial tech at a large bank group. Unless that is shit too. Just work on your own projects on company time and try to get a better place

you should have been deleted when your dad forgot to pull out of your whore mother

Nearly 30s tf?
At what age did you both start the internship? I'm guessing you both went to school for a bachelors before that too?
>>
>>107815493
At 27 just last year, it was unpaid. But I got that real job I talked about only like 3 months in (I was required to still do the internship in order to graduate). I'm getting bachelor later this year. I used to be NEET/blue collar and decided to start doing something that has good pay and potential WFH.
>>
>>107813659
IDK, yeah pretty much? I am a Senior Data Engineer and SQL is pretty much 90% of my job. I have Google Gemini Pro write nearly all my code these days. I'd consider myself a SQL expert, but AI can code elegant circles around my ass.
>>
>>107813713
shes actually a he, nice lil bussy on him tho
>>
>>107815551
Good stuff anon
>I'm getting bachelor later this year
So you're starting the bachelors next year or already doing it and will complete it next year?
I ask these questions because I myself am thinking of a career change at a similar age but am worried
>>
>>107815603
I am doing it and will complete it 2026, it only took me a bit over 2 years total because the school is pretty lax and I had already studied some programming beforehand. I just need to get through their bullshit in order to get the funny paper that says i'm qualified. I was lucky to get a job during studies but in the current situation most people don't, not in this country atleast (not USA). If you are just starting out I think you have hope but you really need to be prepared to put in a lot of effort to get employed. But who knows maybe it will all be better in a couple years. I started grinding at 25 years old and have been just living and breathing tech stuff the whole time. Take your time if you can or tough it out until you get employed like me.
>>
>>107815551
You'll be replaced in 6 months LMAO
