people are starting to forget that Windows actually was good a long time ago, it has been 13 long years
>>107820326Same shit, you just have horrible memory.
>>107820326>Windows actually was goodmaybe before billy bought it and named it windows
It's good if you're a goyslave /v/ermin with no use for their computer other than porn and video games
Indian CEO
>>107820326Windows 7 sucked ass until it got its first service pack, just like Vista before, XP before it and all the others before too.
>>107820381Windows 7 came 16 years agoI said it was good 13 years ago, which is a fact
Everyone knew Windows 7 was good, even at launch.
w10 is better. WSL is a game changer>b-but my bing bing wahoo and pretty colorsgrow up
I switch from 7 to 10 LTSC only 3 years ago, I didn't forget
Oldfags, what were the general thoughts on Windows 7 and XP on /g/ at the time?
>>107820367I fucking hate Pajeet so much. Can we bring Ballmer back? I rather we have a crazy CEO who is high on coke than a stinking Pajeet who want to push his soulless AI and cloud nonsense.
>>107820326Windows 7 is not good. Its just not as bad as what came after.
>>107821060Good.Linux was not as popular as is today because Windows worked few people obviously bitched about it but nothing like today.
>>107821060XP and W7 were generally well regarded pretty much everywhere, though I honestly don't remember what /g/ thought about them in the very early days. I think I mostly browsed /b/ back then.
damn windows 2000 is 13 years old already?
>>107821060i was using windows 98se when i started using 4chan
>>107820326Windows 7 was not good, neither was XP nor Vista, it just has nostalgic value.Windows 8.1 was factually good, minus the start menu, it was the fastest iteration of Windows that we will never get again. Both Windows 10 and 11 are as bad as anything before 8.1, however, Windows 11 does have insane compatibility if you ignore all the bad things about it.
>>107821060XP on release was as shit as Vista was on release (if not worse) but broadband internet connections weren't that common back then so people didn't get to bitch about it with as much reach. Vista was released when internet connections were already in almost every household, so even tech illiterate people would just blindly repeat comments about VistaXP was alright only since SP2, and a lot of people had their first computer with it (it was on the market for a really long time) so they all have nostalgia for itWindows 7 was mostly seen as a fixed Vista, and as with XP SP2 was on the market for a long time so people got very attached to it
>>107821865the only reason vista got the hate it did, was the 512mb ram minimum requirement, which was total horse shit, they even shipped NEW pcs with vista and 512mb of ram.
>>107821841>minus the start menuthe full-screen start screen is superior to the start menu, which ironically, also just has nostalgic value>Both Windows 10 and 11 are as bad as anything before 8.110 is in the same "been around long enough to get most kinks ironed out" tier as XP and 711 is just all-round fucking awful>Windows 11 does have insane compatibilitynigger, it doesn't even install (without workarounds) if you don't have TPM 2.0 (and good riddance)
>>107821888yeah, somehow people learned nothing from XP's 64MB RAM minimum requirementand just as people would swap Vista for XP, people swapped XP for 98SE
>>107821060Windows 7 was hated on /g/ on the basis that it was Windows and not Linux
>>107820326But w11 is still slow and buggy shit despite 4 years of updates
>>107821888i had a hp a6000 that shipped with vista and 512mb, i tried to install debian at the time but had to reboot to search shit on google, took at least 10 minutes every single time for the damn thing to boot. i had a much better experience with vista when i bought a thinkpad with 1gb of ram in 2010, but i eventually had xp on both systems
>>107820326XP will always be my favorite. Never liked 7, it already felt too heavy and bloated.
>I downgraded from 10 to 7 on my laptop for a long time from 2017 to 2020. It's just that I was forced to update thanks to end of support. But the Windows 7 duck flock is growing. They should port Aero to ReactOS already.
>>107820326It was usable and less bloated, not good. The system directory structure makes no sense. The command syntax makes no sense. The registry makes no sense. The system, its organization, and the way uses interface with it on a level deeper than the surface is illogical.
>>107823528who are you quoting?
>windows vista is bad because of aero>but windows 7 is good because of aero
>>107823656Who are you quoting?
>>107823656Vista was bad because it was kind of heavy for the machines of the time, or at least a lot of shitty computers came with Vista but were actually too shit to run it nicely. The worst problem with Vista was the driver compatibility and stability though, I had gotten my first proper high-end PC during the Vista days (Q6600 quad-core, 4GB RAM and 8800GTS 512MB in SLI) and I remember shit like graphics driver BSODs, some trouble with getting the sound card working and worrying over printer support.
>>107820326W7 was really mid. Windows died with XP.
>>107823072windows 11 uses the same kernel as windows 10. so this is a lie. explain yourself liar
>>107825501>windows 11 uses the same kernel as windows 10source?
>>107825703his ass
>>107820326Some people on here might have never even used windows 7 and earlier personally. Imagine only knowing 10 as the earliest. They have only ever seen an uncompleted early alpha version of a new windows release with two settings program, majority of programs left from earlier versions, filled with bugs, bloated, and with actual adware and spyware preinstalled from microsoft itself.Windows 8 was just a reskinned version of windows 7 with the programs remaining from former versions. But with a new but worse settings program.Windows 10 and 11 started to, but never finished to remove the old programs and transition to the newer, uglier, unusable and worse programs. This compared to Windows XP or 7 that were actual new versions of Windows. They replaced most of the things from the earlier version, and in ways that actually improved the interface, compared to windows 10 replacing a compact readable list with huge buttons that takes up the whole screen. Or windows 11 being nostalgic about rounded corners, and instead of implementing it the correct way with corners it literally just blocks content from being shown in the corners of the windows.
>>107825703>>107825722https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=does+windows+11+use+the+same+kernel+as+windows+10why is everyone on /g/ incapable of searching on any search engine or using chatgpt or using wikipedia? can someone explain this to me? is it because everyone here is a massive fucking retard?
>>107820326>wasI'm using Windows 7 as a daily driver. Just upgraded the rig again. 2030s here i come
>>107825829when the holocaust happens you will be first in line
>>107825829It's 50% ragebaiting and 50% actual retardation. You shouldn't actually use 4chan to factually discuss things.
>>107826922where do you go then ? i'm a total brainlet but i'm super interested i'm super scared to ask questions where do i go if i have retarded questions ? people tell me don't use ai but if i've got a question asking people who are 50's/60's and who are willing to answer to a retard where do i go?
>>107826936>i'm super scared to ask questions where do i go if i have retarded questions there's literally a general for that: >>107820851
>>107826916why are you mad at the truth? is it because you are an ultra faggot?
>>107821888Well, that and the immense lack of driver support upon launch. It taught many an important lesson: never be an early adopter of any kind of tech unless you're just tinkering.
>>107820326why did your windows 7 look so ugly?
>>107827640oops I saved the thick window border image again
>>107827640he thicc
>>107820326Most of the apps on that desktop were absolute slop and a nightmare to deal with.I still miss Windows 7 though.
