As for speed it's about the same as GNOME. The only thing that KDE does better is probably the customization, although it could slow down your PC if your rice too much.

When gaynome devs released GNOME3 nobody bothered to switch to KDE because KDE was already having many problems at the time, so it just stuck around for historical reasons. But thankfully, people are finally waking up and realizing that modern GNOME is corporate slop of a DE that's nothing like the old GNOME.I am using MATE which is based off GNOME2 and I'm amazed how good it is. Although I think KDE is fine too though it's too bloated for my taste.
