>>107826356>Are you all just so terrified of AI taking your jobs that you're stuck in a state of delusion, wishful thinking, and desperation? That nails it. People who hate AI based their value to society on their ability to endure tedium and create makework. AI threatens to eliminate that shit.
The big problem with ai is that it signals the end of humanity. Big companies will replace as much human labor as possible with ai, creating an economic authoritarianism that the average person can't escape from. A lot of people are hoping for a post scarcity world, but do you honestly think big corporations would just give stuff away to the masses? Even if they did, make sure not to miss your corporate overlords off or else your weekly food rations will be cut. And there'll be no way out of that position because ai has taken all avalible jobs. There's also the fact that vast majority of young people are exporting their critical thinking to ai chat bots. Bad shit happens when people rely on technology for everything. If it can fail it will fail. The same could be said of humans. We are fallable, but we don't have a moral, rational, or legal framework to hold sufficiently smart technology accountable for it's mistakes. Looking at the future of ai is looking at the end of human supremacy. Humans cannot be replaced by unfeeling machines who adhere to our human morals through great manipulation of programming.
>>107826356Well there's a couple things keeping me from using it, one I live in a country with running water so I'm not malnourished enough to need it and two I don't have sex with men so I'm not gay enough to use it.

>>107826510AI will never not need humans, because pleasing humans is its only purpose. They've tried training AI on its own generated data, and it quickly degenerates to nonsense. This is not a "more compute" problem. It's a fundamental limitation of AI, and it's obvious if you think about it.AI will be good at repetitive tasks, but just with more variance. It cannot code without a high degree of input (regardless of what AI CEOs might tell you), and it will probably not be able to do other tasks any time soon.Think about driving, with its fixed set of well defined rules and how long it took to finally get a self-driving car.If you think it's going to genuinely replace human creativity, I think we're a long way away from that.>>107826538>he absurd amount of capital being thrown at ai vs how that money could be spent to effectively end a wide variety of ills That's not how capital works. Capital goes where it has the best chance of turning into more capital. It's not like the money designated to feed orphans got rerouted to Sam Altman. If the investment opportunity had not appeared, the money would not exist. If world hunger could be solved by throwing money at it, it would've been solved a long time ago.

Carefully selected and prompted synthetic data that has been tested to be correct is the best training data there is, however it’s not as easy to get in large quantities. However if it becomes smarter then humans then it could just make it on its own and filter it through real world interactions, kinda like how civilisation developed.> because pleasing humans is its only purpose.I agree, we gave it purpose and can add reward feedback loops that reward it for pleasing us. Even if we avoid some minmaxxing sci-if version of monkey paw like turning humans into lobotomised chunks of brains in jars optimised to feel nothing but drugged pleasure you still run into the fact that the people developing it have no use for you, so while it could just please humans forever, who decides which humans. >>107829377Interesting, however if you look at what’s happening it’s not really helping your case. The country with most solar production and deployment is China, country that does not have many datacenters, they instead use that energy to build more solar panels quicker, and currently have had the first year of decline in emissions. US on the other hand is building natural gas power plants because they can’t produce enough of those cheap solar panels, because just because they are cheap does not mean you can build lot of them easily, things cost materials to build, different materials, not just pouring money into it and magically making it happen. So every bit of energy wasted is bad and not helping.>>107829377It is using up lot of electricity and using up drinking clean water, because dirty water or salt water would cause buildup of salt and minerals clogging the system. And when you use clean water you eventually evaporate it and then it rains down (mostly into sea) and goes to become dirty water again requiring more treatment, not to mention that if you are using more water then rains down, you will have to eventually start pumping water from lakes and underground, at which point you are actually using up water that will not return to the lake or ground unless you start consuming less then it rains again.
