>use linux, they said

today I went to check why my hard drive was full even though it doesn't have much on it and I found out that my timeshift snapshots take up way more space than the rest of the things (if you don't count home, which isn't being backed up)
one snapshot takes up 128GB and the other 7GB. I'm so done with linux bros

Also, how often you install things?
If you did an upgrade recently, it will remain as a snapshot. and will get deleted later on.

Do you have a mounted external drive by any chance? Like a NAS? You need to exclude it as well. Otherwise it will back it up.

NTA but I wanted to give Linux a try again after 10-15 years. The main reason is because of all that Copilot shit being shoved in our mouth and asses.
Installed Fedora which was very easy. Few clicks and done.
My first impressions: pleasant interface, pretty smooth experience.
But then problems started happening.

First, the nvidia drivers with secure boot. It doesn't have not the greatest support. I had to go through some tinkering like making it work with secure boot and then installing few packages. I broke the system once and had to reinstall Fedora again. Anyway after like an hour I was done.

Then my mpv. When I run a video, audio works but the screen is just black. I installed hundred ffmpeg-related packages, re-installed mpv from Software Center/flatpak, but it still didn't work. I decided to install VLC since I didn't get any progress, and that shit worked. But then suddenly mpv also started working. Weird but ok.

Next, my PC went to sleep. I woke it up and then it just went black screen. Turns out my wifi drivers were causing problems. I just decided to disable it since I use LAN.

The next one was the last drop. I was watching youtube and then my video just stops. It wasn't Internet issue - there was no buffering. I went through a lot of shit like enabling hardware acceleration, installing bridge for nvidia etc. In the end I couldn't completely eliminate it.

In the end, I just decided to fuck it and remove it. I don't have any tolerance for this shit anymore. I just want to get home after work and expect my PC to just work, and Windows shit just works. I see the progress in Linux but there are still these small pesky one-offs that just drive me crazy.

I don't think that's safe. When a nvidia driver fails, it takes many weeks until I decide to play a game that breaks it. Under your configuration, the good drivers would be gone before I notice there's a p roblem

Just keep a note of the nvidia driver number.
It can be redownloaded.
Like this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

You need btrfs partition. Linux Mint can be installed with it if that's your preference.
But BTRFS has downsides. If it ever goes corrupt, you're basically fucked

Saying you can get Btrfs on Mint is like saying you can get SysVinit on Mint; if there isn't a button to do it, it's not a realistic option.

>>
>>107829308
It's greyed out because the only file system Mint lets you select during the installation is Ext4. It's a shit distro.
>>107829334
I don't find manual partitioning fun or a valuable use of my time. Why should I have to manually partition on Mint when the vast majority of mainstream distros default to Btrfs and in some cases don't even offer an Ext4 option during the installation?
>>
>>107829353
mint is meant to be easy for tards explaining to them that if their drive ever gets full they'll get fucked by their fs isn't part of that idea i guess
>>
>>107829353
Because BTRFs is still considered experimental.
Linux Mint is designed for stability, for most retarded of linux users, your granmas and grandpas, where ext4 is proven to be robust and working.
>>
>>107829369
>>107829353
EXT4 just works
Same with Linuc Mint, philosophy is just works.
Which why it's the best distro for those starting out and those who want a stable system. That's why it's best for your grandmas and grandpas

seems like a non issue to me
> You will get ENOSPC error and your btrfs filesystem will degrade to read-only. You will not be able to make any new writes, which includes METADATA and SYSTEM. This means you will not be able to run a balance, delete files or add new devices to your btrfs filesystem. You might still be able to recover your data, but your filesystem is practically toast and you need to start with a new array.

Windows of all things allows you to delete files.

the fs literally can't because it needs to write stuff to be able to delete files

Bi-monthly is certainly a standard frequency between scheduled backups
>When a nvidia driver fails, it takes many weeks until I decide to play a game that breaks it
>game that breaks it
The game(you just lost) breaks a system package? No irony or sarcasm, what the hell does this mean? Are you saying that, at least as often as every second month, you encounter errors with a game you want to play related to the nvidia driver you are using? Do you "play a game that breaks it" whereby you must update the driver to make it work? Unless you are encountering errors, maybe you should refrain from making changes to the nvidia driver package. The dangerous operation is making changes to your system packages, which is presumably what you're trying to mitigate via scheduled backups.
apt mark hold <nvidia-dogshit-67>

apt will not automatically mark nvidia-dogshit-69 for an update.
man apt-mark
>>
>>107829503
It should become read-only at 99% then.
And report as 100% to users, so users can delete files.

Just wait until your hard drive is gummed up by old Linux kernel images the system keeps around "just in case", without telling you, without explaining why or how you may want to use them, and no way to clean them up except mucking around in the terminal. Just wait until your hard drive gets so gummed up it corrupts your bootloader and now you DEFINITELY have to muck around in the terminal to fix it. Except you can't be arsed and just let it sit for 9 months like a brick of shame, a non-testament to Linux's desktop readiness. Just wait.
