>CEO sends out an email encouraging company to use AI more
>We consulted an AI (((expert))) that says it will make us more efficient
>Encouraging Copilot specifically bc we are already using Office, Azure, Etc.
>Mfw im the current IT dept head and was not consulted about any of this or brought in to meet with the (((expert)))

How do I tell him this shit is a terrible idea and AI should not be trusted with any meaningful or security sensitive information? Bonus points if it's a response that won't get me fired

>How do I tell him this shit is a terrible idea
why don't you ask copilot

you have an AI consultant. bring them in and let them introduce some new workflows that make people more efficient.

Can you meaningfully explain your privacy concerns with Copilot that don't extend to the rest of the Microsoft Suite?

Microsoft is shit and I wish we didn't use it, but boomers love Outlook too much.

Last year Read.AI would add itself to random meetings and record the entire meeting without anyone prompting it.

I spent almost two decades in IT. I got lucky and had received an amazing offer to accept a similar technical position, not people facing. Feels good man. My advise, get out. That shit will kill you. People don't care about you and the work you do. They'll grind you down to a nub. Also, that company you slave for would replace you in a second if they could, if you walked, or if something happened to you. Company loyalty is a joke. They rarely give a fuck about you if ever. Service based IT never again. I cannot deal with retards anymore who know how their retard instagram works or their facebook, but the simplest work shit that they get paid to know, they react like dumb children.

Shut up and do what they tell you
You're not paid enough to care

You are paid to minimize the time that broken printers take away from useful employees. You are not a decision-maker except for decisions nobody else wants to bother with. Do what you're told and collect your paycheck.

Your department is being made obsolete but since you are the department head you might keep your job if you play your cards right just so they can have one token IT guy for emergencies. Trying to fight this means you become replaceable though, possibly by someone immediately under you. They did not consult with your department on purpose, because your jobs are on the line.

The only correct way to handle this situation is to become the "AI Champion". From now on you advocate AI and offer assistance to anyone wanting to use or integrate AI. You are the IT department head. Why don't you realize it's actually your job to be on top of the latest technologies and assist the company in using them?
Go to your CEO and tell him how excited you are about this announcement and that you want to help.

The writing is on the wall but maybe you are a bit autistic.

The fact that I can summarize the contents of a shitty fucking 1 hour call and make it tell me who needs to do what as a result of 10 retards talking over each other is already a MASSIVE boost for me. Then it one shots regexes, VBA macros and all sorts of shitty scripts so I can play videogames all day

Our company has the whole suit AI fabric, Copilot, Copilot studio. We got this like a few months ago. I haven't seen a single one AI agent built for any shit in our company.

Express to your superior that it is a waste of time and money, but do nothing else. Let them own it. They'll either make it your problem when they realize how dumb this shit is and all sorts of problems keep cropping up and you leave, or they realize you were right and it then also becomes your problem.

Have an exit strategy.

you are here.
>CEO begins planning which employees he can fire now that AI is onboard
>CEO blames IT when AI isn't actually the best thing ever

My colleagues use chatgpt often and they even upload our semiconductor fab recipes (really fucking secret that took years of R&D) so that it helps them... somehow. They have no fucking clue all this shit gets stored and GDPR or whatever will not work.

> Why don't you realize it's actually your job to be on top of the latest technologies and assist the company in using them?

NTA, but generally speaking competent IT people are supposed to stay on top of actual technology. AI is not that. It's a speculative scam job that doesn't actually do any real work (as it's so unreliable that you still need to be able to do the job yourself to fix its broken garbage). It also doesn't even make any money for the companies that do it. The only one making any money is Nvidia, because they are selling shovels to the retards in the gold rush.

The only thing it actually seems to be any good at is writing slop text, creating broken code, and making uncanny valley porn for people with mental disorders.

>How do I tell him this shit is a terrible idea and AI should not be trusted with any meaningful or security sensitive information?
AI doesn't think.
AI doesn't innovate.
AI projects what you want to read based on averaging its training dataset. Often that gets close to the real answer, but very much not always.
AI simulates a midwit bullshit artist. (I've known people like that too. Yuck.)
An awful lot of speculative money has been spent on building AIs and is still being spent on it. At some point, that's going to show up in how much it costs.
A lot of people running big AI services seem to be utterly unethical, relying on theft to build their training datasets and then lying about that. Do you want to trust a known liar?

If you want an AI that you can actually trust properly, build a local model running on hardware you control. It'll likely be shit, but it will avoid most of the really nasty governance problems.
