You don't need a new computer. Your COVID PC is good enough.

>You don't need a new computer. Your COVID PC is good enough.

So why do software hardware requirements keep increasing?
>>
>>107850517
>RX 560 2GB
>DDR3-1600 8GB
>Athlon X4 870K
nah man i hauled that stuff to the junk shop last year
>>
>>107850517
Yeah. That's why I don't upgrade. I don't want to play modern games and my computer is more than fast enough and has enough RAM for any devtools I use.

in college I got a new PC every year

Now these zoomers are going to try to get through all 4 years on their high school PC
>>

My last PC was fucking 13 years old.

>Now these zoomers are going to try to get through all 4 years on their high school PC
I worked as a video editor back in grade 9, my PC has required very few modifications since then (just storage, and more RAM.) Technology doesn't change enough each generation to rationalize purchasing a new machine on any frequency—my PC is 9 years old and runs great.
>>
>>107850517
i bought my pc in 2014 and have not upgraded since
fuck you and your mindless consumerism
>>
>>107850517
The only upgrade my pc has gotten since 2018 is a new cpu cooler

It's really not... I'm going Threadripper on my next build for more flexibility (cores, PCIE lanes, etc). Consumer hardware has plateaued and they're really not gonna give us more than a few little speedups going forward.

If you just browse and do your homework my PC would be more than enough, but when it comes to total compute it's falling behind fast... hell, even my high-end 4090 feels like the minimum spec these days with new games running like ass without DLSS maxed out (~240p to 4K).

I need to run Solidworks. Will this be enough?

Based. I just upgraded my sandy bridge i5 2500k to a 5800x. My next upgrade will be zen7.
>>
The truer point is that we have pretty good games that run on mid tier hardware from current year

most games arent some path tracing only showcases of future tech, and if they're visually mediocre and arent made on unreal 5 they run at 60fps at 1440p on kinda shit hardware using dlss
>>
It's almost ten years old.... it's so tired....
>>
My screen sometimes goes black for a few seconds randomly is my 980 gpu dying soon? thermals look good so it's not overheat
I really don't want to build a new pc
>>
>>107851219
the chain includes your monitor, the ports, the cable and dsc that may have isseus with driver software
since you havent already replaced the 980 you must be poor in which case consider suicide
or try DDU, different cable, monitor, port, replug gpu power cables
>>
>>107850517
lol, my last computer was certainly not good enough
>>
>>107851235
could it be that my old ass hdmi cable can't do stable 2k 144hz?
>>
>>107851290
its unlikely
you may want to use hwinfo to check stuff like temps on gpu
>>
>>107851311
it's at stable 40C I'm not gayming or anything on it
>>
>>107851344
I guess its time to put in the oven to fix the solders
>>
True my 10700k and 6600xt still plays any game I want. Only thing that disappointed me was oblivion remaster so I refunded it
>>
Nah I just upgraded to:
> 9070 XT
> 9800X3D
> 32GB 6000

Gave the old rig to my wife:
> 2070 Super
> 3700X
> 16GB
All she does is play MTG:A so it's more than enough.
>>
>>107851360
oy vey maybe when it refuses to turn on I will try that but for now a reboot is usually enough to fix it for a while

None of the games people actually play require a fast PC
dont respond to me with a chart for a sub 10k player count game
>>
>>107851709
What about AAA titles ?
>>
>>107851727
irrelevant. nobody plays those
>>
>>107851727
You can play anything on zen3/alder lake with rdna2/ampere
>>
>>107851727
I am only waiting for Phantom Blade Zero and Onimusha then whatever comes after that don't matter. Fuck those remakes
>>
>>107850517
I'm thinking to buy a used i5 4590 + gtx 970 for my little brother's first pc. That's good enough to run gta v, right?
>>
>>107852028
gpu is a bit old, go for a 10series
