Probably, firefox and chromium just werks (install ffmpeg too!), idk about GIMP, terminal ofc works.
Some issues THOUGH:
>acpi0 on Thinkpad T480 is always on 100%, needs kernel patch (ACPI storm)
>newer realtek drivers probably won't work / not available on OpenBSD (rtw89)

as long as your hardware is supported and you're okay with the selection of browsers (firefox and ungoogled-chromium are available)
for my cheapo WalMart laptop, everything is supported except the wifi chip, so i'm going to have to buy an Atheros AR9271 802.11n USB adapter

If you happen to need audio over hdmi, you will have to manage your own kernel (remove an if-statement in azalia.c). And then you might have to manually manage which device to use for audio output. I made my own scripts for that.
>>
I run FreeBSD on my thinkpad no problems. I don't know about OpenBSD, heard its hardware support is worse.

I run ghostBSD on my desktop, everything works, even do some gaming on it

>>107851802
If it has hardware that's supported it will work.

in my experience on my desktop openbsd worked better, several things on freebsd didnt work where they worked perfectly out of the box on openbsd, like the media keys on my keyboard, suspending and even rebooting lmao
on freebsd when rebooting it just hangs forever unless i hit the power button to shut it down and it also doesnt wake up from suspending, i just get a black screen and have to force a shutdown to fix it
>>
Use freebsd. It's faster.
>>
>>107851802
OpenBSD works really good on laptops since devs dogfood it with their own setups. You may have to poke around with mixerctl to get audio working if it doesn't work out of the box

I'm playing with openSD on an old low resource minitower (1gb RAM)
It's pretty barebones but surprisingly snappy.
xfce4 failed so I'll stick with fvwm for now but gimp3 ran fine and firefox is doing pretty well.
I'm still figuring how to use customisation files like .xsession but the man pages are more readable than I've found for linux.

I'll take any suggestions for what to look into to make it look better, is openbox any good?

oh so gimp does work
will have to look into that
also want to try a window manager
tried i3 but it was borked out of the box for me
and the default window manager wouldn't run ungoogled-chromium out of the box
also couldn't get ublock origin or ublock origin lite to work on ungoogled chromium
tried some online crx chrome extension converter for further workaround attempt but somehow the system crashed when it started to download the result
not so shrimple after all
neckbeard keeps growin tho
