Besides the fact that its low powered and cute n tiny. Whats the advantage of buying a raspberry pi for $160 versus buying something like a used hp elitedesk g3 for less than $100? Why pay more for less computing power? Besides people out there living off the grid trying to conserve power, i dont understand the point of these things
>>
>>107852776
you see that group of gpio pins acros the top edge of the board? the hp doesn't have that.
>>
It's a glorified microcontroller, right? It's meant to run basically non stop for years. Do you need to run a process nonstop for years?
>>
>usb a
nobody uses that shit nigga
there are none on my macbook

Just buy a macmini

>$160
I thought Raspberry Pi was supposed to cost $30? Wasn't the whole point that it was supposed to be a cheap computer?
>>
>>107852776
They were made for a world that wasn't plagued by shitty manufacturing shortages. A low-end-2005-desktop tier pi made sense when they went for 50 bucks.
>>
>>107852803
Whats the purpose for it? Im looking on youtube now and it seems you can control leds and other small little trinkets but idk what thats useful for. Dont really see anyone using the gpio for anything practical
>>
>>107852776
Low power is the biggest selling point, the other one is GPIO pins.
>>
>>107853043
cause those are youtube demos. you'd use them just like you would use a microcontroller's gpio stuff. i use a similar sbc to control my vivarium's temp/fans and control a webcam feed as well as capture that video, encode it and push it to my NAS every night. this use both the gpio and cpu/gpu.

If i were to buy a woodworking kit and then complain that it doesn't have any uses cause i don't woodwork. I'd obviously get called a retard. This is similar. If you buy a board for prototyping or running low power computing tasks you don't get to complain that it doesn't have uses if you never wanted to do either.

Remember when these things only cost 30, 40 bucks? Pepperidge Farm sure as fuck remembers.

They're $160 now?? Holy fuck, not worth it
>>
This crap costs 160 USD now? Oh, RAM prices. I still have my Pi 1 with 256MB somewhere.

the 8gigs one is at 80-90
shits fucked, matey
>>
>>107853360
they're releasing a 1gb model since ramocalypse made them so expensive. i hate ai so much.
>>
>>107853043
I have pi that connects to remote torrent box and downloads them to my pc. I put a led on it so it lights while it is downloading stuff

It also has an IR remote that I use for running scripts (though I don't really use it that much)
>>
>>107853432
it has fuck all to do with ai
hate investorshit retards instead. their play is to make line go up by fucking up the stadards of living for everyone else (artificial inflation)
hate the lack of market regulation, or rather the selective application thereof
hate your representatives and lobbying because instead of representing their electorate, they represent the highest bidder

fkn ai doesnt even appear on the list of root causes for the current status quo

Unless you live in eu, use pins, or want to hide it next to the router elitedesk is better.
Even for linux, docker images have to match your host architecture.

Literally, inflation. Also back in 2015 l, during the peak maker craze, hardware wasn't that stagnant yet.
Back then, c2d was the used hardware and it was considered bad and power hungry. Rpi did compete with atom x8530.

Cant you just get one of these gpio adapters for $15 and connect it to a cheaper higher specd used pc? Dont see the benefit in paying $160 just for the gpio utility

>>107853463
what? are you insane?
>>
>>107853640
sure, but that's bigger and I didn't pay 160. I paid maybe 50. I completely support avoiding the current rpi stupidity. Radxa makes more affordable products with good support.
